Charging into Battle
Idk what it is, but Team Cherry always does great with NPCs that can help you in battle. I've only encountered Garmond and Zaza in one area so far, but I'm already charmed by them

Last stream, I completed all of the requirements for opening the door to the Citadel. Will I actually do so instead of doing optional sidequests? Find out on stream!

TL;DR. Silksong is still great. Easily my game of the year even while I'm still in Act 1

Other stray thoughts:
• Hornet's unarmed moveset is fun.
• Zylotol's disregard for Hornet's input on his research is both hilarious and infuriating
• I wish there was more melodic area music. I'm getting tired of long sustain notes over ambient noise
• I already miss the little pilgrim

And apparently, Hornet's metaphysical personhood is uniquely maleable? Eva says being able to acquire new crests and switch them around is a big deal, since it changes Hornet's personhood on some level. I'm not sure what it means, but it's fascinating to think about.

I'm not sure what her deal is, but she seems to be able to sense soul? Not like the substance used in spells in HK, I mean like the metaphysical signature of someone's personhood

The final thing I did last stream was meet what I assume is another Weaver named Eva, who is imprisoned deep within a Weavernest I discovered after defeating Widow.

I had to sneak around, running away from fights and using environmental hazards to protect myself until I retrieved my items. And after re-equipping myself, I fought through enemy gauntlets, found a Bellway station, and fast-travelled out. It was an excellent sequence!

Unrelated to quests was a prison escape sequence in the Slab. While attempting to explore an area filled with Skarrs, I got attack and defeated by a massive fly with an enchanted cage. When I next respawned, all my money and gear was stolen and I had no idea where I was.

The quests within Bellhart all involve finding missing people, salvaging construction materials, or helping neighboring communities. It's so much more hopeful, which I really appreciate after the tragedies in Bone Bottom.

Defeating Widow freed the denizens of Bellhart—or at least the ones that survived getting strung up. And *because* they survived, they all seem more determined to *continue* surviving, with quests that suggests as much.

Widow took me a while to defeat, but her moveset was fun enough that I didn't mind getting my ass kicked for 40 minutes. If and when we get a boss rush mode, I'm definitely gonna try for a hitless Widow fight.

Speaking of her boss battle, it's interesting that Silksong uses bells as a common projectile between different bosses, similar to how HK1 uses globs of infection. The use of thread lines to tell the player the trajectory of those bell projectiles is also quite smart

But alas, Widow is but another sick and awesome boss fight, whom Hornet completely disintegrates into shredded motes of silk at the end of their battle. No way of knowing what she knows now—not from her directly, anyway.

It would have been fascinating to put a mask on her and try to pick her brain about what was really going on. (Assuming that's how it works)
🧵28/40
redlerred7.bsky.social
But we also know from HK1 that masks are what bugs outside of Hallownest use to retain their sense of self. Widow being maskless suggests that she wasn't entirely in her right mind when she fought Hornet.
🧵27/40
redlerred7.bsky.social
Widow's dialogue suggests some resentment towards the Weavers of Hallownest for what I can only assume is running away from whatever is happening in Pharloom. And we know from HK1 that not only is Hornet a child of those Weavers, but also a demigod child of the Pale Wyrm
🧵26/40
redlerred7.bsky.social
Turns out, the one who bound the town's denizens was a maskless Weaver named Widow. She wasn't the true source of the thread, but seemed to help the thread string up bodies and puppet them around. Also seemed strangely spiteful of Hornet's pedigree
🧵25/40
redlerred7.bsky.social
Bellhart gives me hope for the quests, tho! There was a major story quest to free Bellhart from its haunting, which had me take a circuitous route through the Shellwood to find whatever has the denizens bound by thread and put a stop to it.
🧵24/40
redlerred7.bsky.social
But like, they're not even that shallow compared to HK1 NPCs! If anything, they're deeper and have more dialogue. But the fact that I'm doing gameplay things for them—instead of just talking to or buying items from them—makes me want to judge them more harshly
🧵23/40
redlerred7.bsky.social
But I don't know what to feel about their stories other than that they exist. Which is disappointing because I feel like there should be more to learn about them

The Druid, the Seamstress, Greyroot, and more recently, Alchemist Zylotol asking me to collect X amount of Y things for a reward is gameplay-wise decent…
