It easy to be grateful for pretty things, the lace of fluffy snow on branches. Harder to be slogging through salt-slush toward your office and remember that you used to DREAM of having an office, a short skirt, black leather booths, and now you have them all.

I am grateful for the hard ice in uneven foot-patterns, the thick crunchy layers on everything. It is what makes the spring so wonderful, and also why the cockroaches around here never get too big.

One week since dog's surgery and she's doing great. Though I am still spending 90% of my time on the sofa with her. She's going to hate it when I leave for Italy Saturday.
