recently i have started listening to recordings of the ocean from different places in the world on repeat for hours at a time and this has been a big improvement over being plugged into all the music on the internet

tried to make another extremely funny investment but ended up buying a piece of a nuclear micro reactor company instead

case for bluesky is pretty straightforward, you can have better communities with radical customization of the feed

lots of lexicons in the whitewind git repo. is this a semantic web

Rough idea of what I'd do running product at Bluesky:

- Add geo-tagged posts
- First class feed of nearby posts
- Add more local feeds as that becomes possible

No social media platform has worked outside very online people in the last decade, except maybe Substack. Bluesky could actually be first.
It'd be nice if this was just an algorithms problem.

But what atproto needs is an app that a billion monthly users will find positively engaging. Bluesky or something new.

It's hard. Designing a new highly engaging social app is a dark art. Not even the most successful founders have done it twice.
The Bluesky app has three "obvious" paths it could take:

1. Remain a retro Twitter app and pray that a critical mass coalesces

2. Become a TikTok clone like Instagram/X have done

3. Evolve the retro Twitter app into something new

#1 easy but wishful thinking

#2 hard without being evil

#3 hard!

came up with a way to make a multiuser atproto runtime by synthesizing an event log across PDSes. is this crazy

ever since the internet started getting meaner around the early 2020s, some high openness people seem to have taken it upon themselves to enforce imagined social norms in their community by shutting down criticism

and it's like…that seems like a clear faux pas? it can't possibly be winning friends
