Wanted to have a quick talk about my handle and artist name, rauðvik.
If you have a passing knowledge of Icelandic/Nordic languages, you‘ll see the root, "rauð-" in there, meaning "red."
"-vik" derived from the verb, "að víkja", one meaning of which is "to deviate from." /1

It's become fringe to actually purchase music. I encourage you to be more fringe, if you want music to survive as an art form & for people not born into wealthy/well-connected families to also pursue their calling as artists

You can have my coffee when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Also, it benefits my liver so fuck your "no nutritional value."
theatlantic.com
Tariffs have rapidly increased the price of coffee—a drink with almost no nutritional value and lots of functional substitutes. Yet coffee may also be the one thing Americans can’t live without, @elcush.bsky.social writes:
The Drink That Americans Won’t Give Up Without a Fight
Coffee has almost no nutritional value and lots of substitutes. It’s also, apparently, too important to lose.

This showcases a far more experimental and noisy side of the opsix.

Everything is odd, harsh, and at times unrelenting.

The soundscapes are meant to tell the story of crashing onto a dead alien world, and eventually succumbing to the elements

Since I’m in an #opsix mood, here are two album recommendations for today.

This is lovely, lush, conventionally pretty, but imbued with a great sadness (given the title is "difficult farewells", I’ll let you draw your own conclusions)

Masking with a respirator in public is the biggest litmus text of being antifascist there is.

If you are not doing this the real ones do not trust you.

For me, it was finding out my partner had a microKorg shortly after we got together, and yeah… haven’t looked back

Leave it to the opsix to help me feel something again while working and noodling in front of a synthesizer

What are we working on today?

Glad you asked

Last week’s mission was Operation Word of Mouth.

This week, something different.

If you have supported my Bandcamp in any way throughout the past year, please take a few moments and write a review.

Not for me, but for others to know what they’re about to listen to.

I’ve tried to keep a lid on my mouth with streams, but that didn’t happen here.

There was much yelling at the first boss and while going toward the secondary goal

"I asked ChatGPT…"

Yeah, well I asked my cat and she said, "pbbrrthprth" and that means, "you’re a fuckin loser."

At the very least, my feelings of annoyance and disgust when listening to my own pieces are remaining a thing of the past, so at least I’m partially through this massive crash-out.
raudvik.bsky.social
But yeah, when I say that I’ve been nearing the point of just saying "fuck it", selling off all my gear, and giving up entirely, that’s not an exaggeration.
raudvik.bsky.social
It does help me to feel better when I can rationalize and come up with points like this so my problems don’t seem so nebulous. A. and B. are fixable / wait-out-able.

C. not so much. The disappearance of every last podcast could be a start though.

C. *gestures at everything* It is really hard to keep going in our current environment, and I’m not just speaking to the global ascent of fascism.

There is also the mentality towards music as a whole where a LOT of folks have forgotten (or have never known) how to engage with it.

It’s discouraging
raudvik.bsky.social
I’ve had time to think on it and I’m having ideas why making music is so damn hard for me right now.

A. Persistent depressive episode is playing a role

B. Chronic illness is wiping me out with the transition to autumn, which is just giving me more time to sit with A., creating a feedback loop

This is where it’s at.

If my busted brain can’t be bothered to make its own music, finding excellent ambient tunes will serve as a lovely pick-me-up.

Ambient fans, dive into this.
