Hey, if you're thinking about subscribing to my new efforts at Ghost, this is the week I need you to do it.

The doors are open and the Ghost era is beginning. If you were reluctant because of Substack, please show me I made the right choice by moving.

A landing page that shows the pricing for three different tiers of my website. You can subscribe for FORMERLY DANGEROUS, for THE LAST '80s NEWSLETTER, or for both of them in a deal called THE BUNDLE. The front page of drewmcweeny.com, with a banner image showing Peter O'Toole as Lawrence of Arabia, and my current top story, a column called "Try, Try Again."

NICE!

Was SO TEMPTED, but it ran against the same time I could see GOOD BOY.

Choices were made.

NICE!
Congratulations.

Big fan of OUTLAND.
Pairs very nicely with ALIEN for blue collar sci-fi.

Continuing #HorrorHalloween2025 with: GOOD BOY.

SO GLAD I made the effort to catch this while it was in theaters.

I thought this would be zombie based from the trailers, but I was pleasantly surprised. A simple scary story that unfolds in a fun way. Indy the dog was great! Definitely worth it!

Drew Struzan made movie posters that were, simply put... Iconic.

THE THING, INDIANA JONES, BTTF 1-3

But for me, his "poster" for a non-existent THE DARK TOWER movie, used in THE MIST, was that one that will always stay with me.

Long days and pleasant nights to you, paintslinger.

Art based on Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER, featuring Roland standing in front of a door and a rose, guns in both hands, dressed like a cowboy. Art by Drew Struzan, used in THE MIST movie.

The world lost a genial man, a genius communicator and a supreme artist. I lost a friend - beloved Drew.

As always, sorry it didn't hit for you.
It is a weird and told in a strange way. Things DO come together.

Perhaps another day.

THE WHITE COMMANDS YOU (2003)
Oil on Panel - 28" x 18"

Interior illustration for THE DARK TOWER (book 7) by @stephenking.bsky.social 1/3
Father Callahan, a white haired man with a cross-shaped scar on his forehead, stands atop a table surrounded by vampires and low men. He thrusts his hands upward with a small turtle figurine glowing intensely bright. He is dressed all in black with a pistol tucked in his belt. Bathed in light, his face is etched with determination as his eyes draw to beads. The hideous creatures immediately surrounding him draw back in pain, grasping at their heads in agony with his shouted command. The room behind is lit yellow and orange where a curtain is drawn back and more creatures pile. Above, the light of the turtle radiates in defined white lines that shift the background purple.

Many moons ago, watched THE WILD BUNCH on VHS, post college.
Did nothing for me, bounced right off.

A decade+ later, "forced" to see it again at The New Bev because I wanted to see ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.
FLOORED me!
Has become one of my favorite Westerns.

Dutch is my soul animal!
Ernest Borgnine dressed as a cowboy, on the set, eating a popsicle. He's playing Dutch in THE WILD BUNCH.

I remember, sometime in college, maybe '88 and seeing some kind of ad-thing that was "We heard you - less heavy metal on MTV"... and I knew my time was ending with them.
