hell i've been rallying casually for 5 years in DR2.0 and WRC, and i still consider myself a novice as i pick up RBR.
this is just my take on the mindset, and it's what i tell anyone who asks how i rally.
i won't lie, rally's HARD. but hey, if i can pick it up, anyone can. ^^

idk. that's how i learn, and i enjoy the slow improvement process! it's really what keeps me going with rally - i'm sure y'all can relate, finding a few seconds here and there feels GREAT.
but at the end of the day i'm just a casual player. literally JUST got my first wheel and still learning it.

like, it's a fine mindset for time trials and practicing, trying to find where you can push yourself. but as a newbie (or even a longtime player who's trying to git gud) the best thing you can do is start small, go for consistency first, THEN start pushing the envelope. saves you so much frustration

it's also a really good way to not finish any rallies tbh? like. isn't "to finish first, first you must finish" literally rule 1 of motorsport?
in an actual championship you only get one shot, so you can't just keep resetting for that One Perfect Run where you're going flat-out for the whole stage.

of course everyone learns differently, but... imo you gotta learn WHEN to go full send. that's why one of my main jokes about rally is "please send responsibly" - it's impossible to learn where you're going wrong if you're just throwing yourself at the stage hoping to get to the end by luck.

like yeah, when you're really pushing for times, send it! absolutely! and i'm not denying that Colin was a legend, he's one of my heroes
but giving that as advice to people who want to learn to play rally games is... not great.
i've had that mindset while trying to learn track and it's Bad.

so well done them! but then they added a second post that said this:
"'slow is smooth and smooth is fast' is just cope. always go flatout. without mistakes you will never learn or grow. Colin was right"
and as someone who started from scratch with rally, that... really rubbed me the wrong way

something's been bugging me all night...

someone on the hellsite put up a post saying they got every achievement in DR2.0. like, fantastic! especially since their whole point was that you don't need fancy sim gear to win at rally, since they did it with auto gears on a pad! genuinely awesome work

so youtube didn't inform me in any way of the outage during my stream why exactly?? it would've been nice to have been notified at least... it didn't even show any frame drops!
thankfully people who tuned in before the outage were able to keep watching, but any newcomers got the error page
