I’ve been leading a weekly Bible study for a group of friends since 2020. Tonight’s session was on Daniel 3, which lead one attendee to discover that the Beastie Boys were sampling this Sly Stone bop.

I’m hosting a Three Sisters Potluck tomorrow for Indigenous People Day. Prep this morning included roasting a kabocha squash, making corn pudding, and putting some flor de junio beans in the instant pot.

If you didn't want Puerto Ricans speaking Spanish in the US, you should've thought about that before you colonized the island and forcefully made it a part of the US.

actually it's ok to look things up in the dictionary instead of blaming the author for using a word you didn't know

This was one of the readings at my wedding.
I needed to use a bunch of kale, chard and herbs that I grew, so I made spanikopita.

The professor has been fired and senior administrators removed from their post. No mention of this in the New York Times, The Free Press, The Atlantic or other outlets who drove the campus speech moral panic.

My pacifist Christian faith tells me that we should let our yay be yay and our nay be nay, to be honest and straightforward in our speech.

But it also tells me that the peacemakers shall be called the children of God and that so much as it is within my power, to live peaceably with everyone.
But I think it’s pretty clear that Trump wants the US to appear more aggressive and normalize the idea, at home and abroad, that we will *start* wars and that’s not something I can get behind.
I want a much, much smaller department of defense that only does actual defense. I want peace through real peacemaking, not peace through military force and domination.
My initial reaction to renaming the DoD the Department of War is actually kind of positive. “Defense” implies that we’re only protecting ourselves, when the DoD is often used to proactively “defend” special interests by waging war.

Let’s be honest about what we’re doing and then change!

If you're willing to throw the trans population to the wolves you're willing to throw every other group that's not you to the wolves too, they just aren't howling loudly enough for them yet.

If you’re in the middle of applying for citizenship in Massachusetts and would be open to talking to a reporter today, shoot me a DM.
I had a book club like this over a decade ago. It was fantastic. I would absolutely do it again.
Just encountered a very cool idea for a book club! Each person reads a different book & annotates it. They pass it to the next person in the club, who annotates it, & passes it on. Rinse & repeat! It's a different kind of conversation AND creates a very cool art object at the end!
I had a book club like this over a decade ago. We read popular books that we saw people reading on the subway that we knew we would hate. It was great. I loved seeing the different annotations from different people.
It’s fixed! I can catch airplanes again!
I’ve really been enjoying the game, but this renders it pretty much unplayable. You need to use coins to play for more than a couple minutes at a time.
