With Lord Ganesha his elephant trunk points mostly to the left, if it it depicted pointing to the right it requires daily worship or risk his displeasure !

What's in a name ¿

The National Gallery of Victoria has a
Double spouted sake ewer
(Ryōguchi chōshi 両口銚子)

www.ngv.vic.gov.au/explore/coll...

Amazing what one can find once the name is known !
(searched for images with 両口 銚子 )

A few months ago I got to go to a Bukubuku tea ぶくぶく茶 event at Namin (Naminoue) Shrine in Naha, Okinawa. The preservation society was in charge and it showcased ingredients and books related to the tea. It was a lovely experience!

*bare, being shy, she said bare…

I much can a Koala bear ⁉️
【she asked】
❴my answer has always been ❝The weight of her own fur !❞ 😎❵

Seems a toss-up for the CN between 銚子 as
diàozi and/or yáo zi
Except here the Grand Ricci makes no sense to have "hoe" for yáo zi ¿

Last post for the day on these sake vessels…
from
sake.science/%E3%81%8A%E9...
seems single and double spouted distinction is
ryokuchi 両口 【りょうくち】double spout chôshi 銚子
katakuchi片口 【かたくち】single spout chôshi 銚子
quirinpress.bsky.social
found this at
www.gekkeikan.co.jp/enjoy/cultur...
also interesting detail for the single and double spout varients‼️ The CN 銚/吊/弔子 diàozi pot seems to have been used used in decocting medical herbs, the Grand Ricci gives the 弔子 variant simply as a "Bouilloire" [pot for boiling].

Slow Monday 🧠… I see now that originally chōshi 銚子 is a sake vessel with a long handle and a spout
Modern use seems to be more generic "a sake holder" as my Kenkyusha Dic. has it
Presumably from CN diaozi 銚子/吊子 which the HYDCD defines as "A small pot with a handle and a spout."

Another, last one for today, also by Chikanobu
A Young Bride
Series; Ladies' Etiquette Pictures
quirinpress.bsky.social
Another Chikanobu (1838 - 1912) Woodblock print with the same implement
Sweet Sake on New Year's Day
Series: Women's Life in Chiyoda Castle

Date: 1895

Yet another Chikanobu print with such a sake serving ladle, this one somewhat more composed !

Artist: Chikanobu Yoshu (1838-1912)
Title: Sake Ceremony
Series: The Outer Palace of Chiyoda
Publisher: Fukuda Hatsujiro
Date: 1897
quirinpress.bsky.social
here is a Meiji woodblock print by Toyohara Chikanobu showing such a sake serving implement (rather not a ritualistic usage of said implement !–)

I assume they are for some kind or ritual, possibly wedding, the teshoku 手燭 candlestick shape is captivating... I wonder if overfilling the vessels could pour two cups of sake at the same-time 🍶🤲

I also like the faces hidden in the obscurity of the unfocused background, peering on the glass eye that watches and captivates…

When I met the wide-eyed gaze of this schoolgirl—her tousled hair, her face alive with quiet curiosity—I lowered my camera. In that instant, her unguarded innocence shattered my detachment, reminding me of the fleeting privileges we take for granted and the fragile beauty of our shared humanity.
Upon seeing the wide-eyed gaze of this innocent schoolgirl, her tousled hair framing a face filled with quiet curiosity and unspoken stories from a distant classroom, I had to put my camera down. In that moment of stillness, I reflected on the fleeting nature of my own life—the privileges, the cultures fading away before my eyes, and how a single child's unfiltered expression can cut through the lens to remind us of our shared humanity. There is a set of double spouted sake vessel 酒器 in Wajima-nuri 輪島塗 lacquerware for sale on the web, 🙏 does anyone know if there is a specific name for such vessels that seem inspired by the tripod candle stick holders of Japan ❓
quirinpress.bsky.social
Is that
清淡湖 or 平緩湖
aka Lake Placid 😎
