Two great shows btw :-)
Exactly, I feel some folks are losing the understanding of understanding, brought about initially by Googling for answers and exacerbated by having AI do that for us now. I loved the fact that the review was an allegory of this and also a moral tale.
You: "I will, if you can explain the word's etymology"
can you do it in an RSS format please so I can subscribe to it? :-)
You don't half come out with some cracking reading recommendations
err that was supposed to be "unto", not "until", natch
Nice post (I do find the title interesting, surely the second half is superfluous ;-)). It reminds me that SQL is a whole universe until itself, an entire discipline that's sometimes too easy to collapse into viewing as just a language.
Nice review, which for me also (intentionally?) reflects a general malaise today (which may get worse given the tools that folks are excited about currently) - knowledge gained by reading, through building layers of understanding. Of documentation in particular.

How about catching up this weekend on this fun #Devtoberfest discussion amongst many of the Developer Advocates, about developer tooling in the 21st century. Lots of topics covered, including AI, agentic coding, model context protocol, MCP servers, IDEs and more 👉 www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovf3...

#Miniflux is awesome. I used to use Google Reader (RIP) but now am more independent anyway. I run it as a Docker compose-d pair of containers miniflux.app/docs/docker....

I'm rebuilding my subscriptions - do you have a blog feed? The link in your bio here is broken btw
:-) nice backref. The times they are a(i)-changin', for sure.
What if we apply that maxim to programming, in the age of gen AI?
Writing is a great way to marshal one's thinking about a topic, and (thereby) to learn. That's one of the main reasons I keep doing it.
Glad it referenced the original, which is great, from Gary Bernhardt #WAT

It is but it is very minimal (uses bearblog) and I'm still trying to find my "way of writing". For me it is just a small outlet now and then, more than anything else. If it finds a few people and maybe even helps here and there, that is a bonus. ^^

Looks great, thanks for sharing! This is exactly what a blog should be - your own personal space, with your own words, owned by you, and shared with the world via standard open protocols such as RSS or Atom. Kudos!
Thank you for perusing it anyway!
