It's such a pleasure to read a book where translation, editing, and printing were done with care. This edition of Alexandros Papadiamandis' The Murderess is by Denise Harvey and translated by Liadain Sherrard. There is a recent movie which reviews say it's very good, here's hoping we get it in NL.
A book against a background of textile patchwork. The cover is white with dark brown and black letters, and some drawings in black and white. The text reads:
Alexandros Papadiamandis
The Murderess
A social tale

My review of "Goat, Goddess, Moon" now available in the Taos Journal of Poetry.

"The collection is a love story, or perhaps a love song, since its first poem, “Seed,” declares: This is not a story,/more the truth."

Pyracantha berries along a hiking trail. They look like miniature pumpkins to me. 😁

Close up of a cluster of pyracantha berries that are red, orange and dark yellow. They have a black, five-pointed star on the bottom side. The leaves are dark green, slightly long and have a rounded tip.

Mt. Hood in the clouds yesterday. Portland Oregon. Have a beautiful day. 💙☁️🏔️
Mt. Hood. Dark landscape and conifers, partial snowy mountain with rock exposed, beautiful while cumulus clouds at the peak, creamy white sky behind, huge cumulus clouds above with pale blue sky.

#InternationalTranslationDay - Lucius Livius Andronicus was born in Tarentum in 284 BCE. Although he was a writer and a playwrigth, he was sold as a slave when Tarentum was conquered in 272 BCE. His masterpiece is the translation of the Odyssey into Latin, Odusia. Only 46 lines survived.

Thanks for commenting! I love the idea of a Van Gogh painting of that same image. It reminds me of the limitations of photography, as wonderful as photography can be.

The Victoria & Albert museum holds many treasures, one of which is this late antique pair of shoes from Roman Egypt (400-600 CE). 10/10 would wear today (photo is my own).
4 SHOES
400-600
Dry burial conditions can preserve even organic material, such as the leather from which these remarkable shoes have been made. Only the original colour has faded; perhaps it was purple or red. Lavishly decorated with gold leaf, the shoes would have been expensive.
