Pico8 uses a token system to limit how large a program can be. It's a maximum of 8,192 tokens. A token is any individual piece of data, such as a variable, operator, function or value.

I have far more ideas than I have tokens for. (I'm down to about 400 remaining atm, but I know I can gain back at least 200 - 300 just cleaning up code.) So once I get that far I'll just squeeze in as much as I possibly can with what I've got left. I'm starting to see the end which is encouraging

I am planning on polishing the title screen a bit more. This is sort of a 'sketch' with all the elements in place. I need to do the game over screen next. Then once that's done I'll know how many remaining tokens I have to work with to finish it up with more polish and effects.

It's been a while since I had any updates on the game. Finally got around to building a title screen and got this cool fade effect working.  

I went with the title "Sol Survivor" someone suggested. I don't remember who it was but thanks for that! :> I think it fits perfectly

Just throwing this out there...

The socket shape for a single value should be a triangle. Because it's "part" of a diamond, which represents a field/vector, the way a single number is one "part" of a vector. It also creates an arrow head, as in, "pushing a value into the node in this direction".

Almost every time, yeah. It's really frustrating. Because since 2.8 it's clear they *know* how important UI is. But they still let the programmers make all the decisions for a new release, then maybe fix it 3 versions later anyway. It's like, com'on. You know better now.

I'm STILL annoyed about deprecating the Musgrave texture. I know it still exists in the noise texture, okay fine. But they don't call it the musgrave texture anymore! It's some other weird name. Why did you change the name in the menu??? ARG.

Removing the dot from the diamond socket feels like a step backwards. I know that field data is represented by a striped noodle now, but now in order to see the input into a diamond socket you have to look in some other place other than the socket itself (the noodle). Why not just keep the dot too?

I kinda understand the reasoning behind making the dot the "agnostic" socket (though I don't necessarily agree). But making the value socket a vertical bar is... a choice. It looks much more like the "join" socket w/ its oblong shape. Odd choice for something intended to represent single values.

The new group/stack indicator is a really weird one. It's almost too subtle to be useful and is completely different from all the other design language in the entire rest of the software. What an odd choice. Was it tested at all? Why doesn't it fit the conventions of the rest of the UI?

Saw a vid on Blender 5.0 geo node updates and there are certainly changes. It feels like they are changes for the sake of making things different, not changes with the intent of making things better/easier to use.

Feels like there've been a lot of bad UI changes lately. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I'm sure this goes without saying but the attack on porn is primarily an attack on independence. Capital will always support porn when it is lucrative. But capital cannot abide competition. Porn allows individuals to compete on their own terms, so must be curtailed.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.
