People like to talk about being radicalized politically but honestly not wanting people to die of poverty and be able to get insulin and not bombing innocent children seems like pretty normal boring morality, all those other fucking weirdos are the radical ones
forreal, or also turning off in-feed replies for specific people. its just one of those qol things that i think will be added eventually but.
oh dude this fucks i am so excited to see the final!
a better snarky response would be "babe its a creepypasta, typing them is how we read it"
medium (which again, is people telling scary stories pretending they are real), while the other person is ignoring this SAME EXACT POINT but in the opposite direction.
both people are wrong to me LMAO. people today don't engage with creepypastas thinking they are real, the way early-net horror stories kinda had the setup that the author was telling a real story. neither person is suspending their disbelief. the first one for pointing out a flaw inherent to the-
i definitely get that side of it all for sure. i think (and this is something 12tone states too) that hbomb's success with long format is that at the end of the day. it's good stuff. the roblox video was entertaining and fascinating the entire runtime. so was this most recent one.
its funny, i had never seen his other stuff (had heard abt the sherlock one in passing but wasn't interested in what i thought was just Some Dude's opinion on the show) before his last video on the roblox oof noise, but the memeification of its runtime made me genuinely curious. that def primed me.
when any reason given for why their solution would have worked has just as much logic/lore behind it as any rebuttal that says it wouldn't. the parts that should be "realistic" are the parts that aren't fantastical, imo. you can have "unrealistic" aliens, but balanced with realistic characterization
-absurd, and it's this absence i have personally found people pointing out, and then the "not everything has to be realistic" pedants emerge. and i feel like also tandem with this is the taint of cinemasins-style "hey this is a plot hole! they have x magic/tech, why can't they do z?"
i feel like people conflate "realism" with a "suspension of disbelief" which ARE different. no dragons are "realistic" because dragons arent real. but suspension of disbelief allows an audience to understand they are real in that setting. however, there ARE things that are real whose absence becomes
if it weren't like. incredibly bigoted, it would almost be comical how blatantly and unabashedly antisemitic hp goblins are. like, dnd goblins aren't immune to people being Weird™️ about it, but at least the canon lore doesn't have them owning all the banks. its so ridiculously forward in its bs.
-which is made more jarring (and telling) when there aren't non-orcs with these features depicted. obviously dnd is different than lotr because different tables tell different stories, and its not just One Guy doing all the writing forever. but the community in dnd def has this problem.
yeah, and so i think the crits for lotr orcs preside entirely within how they are physically described in the books. though its been a while since i have seen the content detailing the exact wording and descriptions. but both dnd and lotr tend to default giving black features to these people-
the goblins in HP. another race i find sometimes left out of these discussions is the yuanti, and the like. bizarre sexual dimorphism and blatant orientalism of the species.
fair enough on the second point, i just assumed you were wanting views on in-game treatment and not the meta-depiction discussion at large. they're obvi correlated.
funny enough, in my 10+ years on the internet, i'd seen criticism for tolkien orcs before i had ever even gotten into dnd. same with-
-getting into the ways you can read meta-level racism into how these "evil" dnd species/races are depicted visually and culturally, which is a whole other bag of worms not really tied to your question.
-groups of these peoples who exist outside of those oppressive or violent cultures. no one is born "evil", an evil or exploitative culture molds them into that cruelty. non-evil races are allowed to have evil beings, why should the evil races be barred from having good ones? this also isn't even--
this is actually the issue that was the catalyst for me completely writing my own lore for a lot of the canon dnd races/species. i am of the opinion that the desire to have entities that are "evil" should be a cultural thing, and not something inherent to the species. and then writing instances of--

Reference and r20 token for my first Dungeons and Dragons character, Talbot the harengon wizard. tfw you've got a quiet scholarly guy in your party but suddenly he turns into a magic missile machine gun when combat starts and he keeps one-shotting all the enemies #ArtAdventCalendar

i am so glad i have found a way to return to my enjoyment of drawing after my career (and studies!!) in graphic arts completely burnt me out on creating anything at all. there's obvi worse jobs out there, but just in the context of "motivation-sucking careers" i was def creating more when in retail.
The Kiril adapted from the Celestial beasts, Ki-rin, these beings are ambassadors for the Celestial Plane within the Material. They possess divination powers, the ability to walk on water, and radiant unarmed strikes.

They were really fun to design.

The semi-nomadic Lepiderae people resemble moths and butterflies. A Lepidera’s appearance and abilities are determined by the height of the sun and moon during hatching, and are aptly dubbed Solarborn (butterfly-like) or Lunarborn (moth-like).
