They have classes on advocacy there... Or they used to
“School officials have created a Microsoft Copilot prompt to review course descriptions with an eye toward avoiding ‘advocacy-oriented or prescriptive terms.’”

Terms: “dismantling, decolonizing, interrogating, challenging, centering, combating, liberation, resistance, activism, justice oriented”
To Root Out Wokeness in the Course Catalog, This Texas University Is Turning to AI

Worse, they have no tether left to objective reality. They do not trust crime statistics. They have horrid policy preferences that they could not define success for.
I have had so many long conversations with seniors about stuff and if they only watch 24 hour news, and I don't care what channel, they are convinced the world is lawless, they're scared, and the know everyone is coming for them. No one believes me when I say crime is down.

All. Eight. Wards. Admitted. As. States.
Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

$20,500 per year max for graduate loans. HFS, dude. Down from $50,000.
I don't know what people thought the regulatory backlash to the Online Program Manager (OPM)-fueled tuition inflation crisis in grad social work education would look like....but it was never going to be competent regulation that addressed root causes.

This is hilarious.

And I realize this is a joke...but this what the reactionary forces are rebelling against...the broader groundswell of agreement about the ontological existence of sexism, racism, etc. within society.
I cannot apologize to the college feminists on my campus in undergrad enough. They were clearly the real materialists and I was LARPing. It really is gender all the way down.
lol it's just "big truck big".

Leftist deregulation isn't a myth.

And teaching this generation has been a blessing. They've lived past socializing that "all regulation is good/bad" and been bludgeoned over the head with "regulatory capture must be reformed"
Honestly it's funny that he is *quite literally* saying "deregulate and reduce the burden of taxation on business to create jobs" and nobody on the left will criticise him. Good.
Soon small businesses won’t have to wait for Small Business Saturday to get attention from their Mayor.

Some changes that they can look forward to:

OJS, change your mobile template to float the PDF download link to the top of the page instead of at the bottom below the references.

I'm assuming putting this into the void is the same as a feature request?

Private foundation grants are also drying up. I got an LLM-generated rejection after they closed applications from an unprecedented number of applicants.

Just grim stuff all around.
Just pointing out how grim the funding situation is. If an institution fights you have no idea where future grants are coming from. Harvard won in court and is still telling researchers to cut everything 20% because they don’t know what happens next. Somehow everybody has to make it to Jan 2029
Yes I agree with this. The problem for grant-dependent researchers is that even if they win in court to get their illegally withheld funds, they’re sure to be denied any new grants by these corrupted agencies. 2026-2028 will be a killing field as institutions hemorrhage their research apparatus

Horrific news
NEW from me - NSF cancels grant scheme for social science research.

Seems the NSF quietly archived ALL calls for DDRIG grants in the SBE directorate. This is a massive blow for PhD students wanting to do cutting-edge social science research. 🏺🧪

Ed Timmons on the impact of Illinois Social Work Exam Reform.
When the requirement was removed, the number of MSWs in Illinois increased by 50% with an increase of more than 2,600 licensed professionals. Two years after the treatment, the increase was nearly 100%.

Currently trying to pull together every access for evidence-based practice study that's in existence. Luckily, it's like 30 articles tops with % of full-text access. Lots of disciplines have at least one, mostly from developing countries. Not a lot of unifying work yet!

The amount of misinformation about the student loan changes has been truly annoying. I just saw a bad example from an advocacy organization, but even professional organizations have prioritized buzzwords over providing the new loan limits & comparing with better policies to control tuition inflation

VERY excited for this chapter. Need to edit it down by about 10-20 mins., QA, and properly attribute source texts, but it's been a white whale of mine for YEARS.

This is how to skim an empirical journal article for generalizability and transferability.
