Garner and McQueen both raced in the Baja 1000 in the 60s. Veteran rally driver Erik Carlsson respected Garner as a driver, but said that McQueen taking his modified Saab 96 for a joyride (with Erik in the navigator seat) was the scariest few minutes of his life.
imho James Garner really is the guy that everyone thinks Steve McQueen is. Garner's fit was so powerful that McQueen threw a tantrum about it and insisted they swap costumes.

A lot of editors don't even know about media magnification. One of the shocking things - to me - when I left journalism school was how little editors knew about like the study of journalism as a discipline. It's a profession based in norms even if those norms are harmful.
Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

My favorite camera is this c.1937 Kamera-Werkstätten Pilot 6 SLR. At some point inexperienced person took it apart and put it back together badly, and also brushed over the entire camera with gloss black lacquer. It takes 16 exposures on a roll of 120.
