A fun @popshopradio.bsky.social this week. I had no idea Ringo had his own label! A good mix of music with Devo and Stray Cats in the same show, and not too much hash from nearby WWCR, either.

Just as the Beatles' did in the 1960s with Apple Records, drummer Ringo Starr formed Ring O'Records in 1974. While he
never recorded for his own label, Ringo did sign a number of artists including American saxophonist Bobby Keys.

Bobby Keys was born in Texas and began his professional career at age 15 in 1956 touring with rockabilly star
Buddy Knox. By 1970 he was in demand as a session musician which lead to backing the Rolling Stones on tracks on
the Let it Bleed album and their 1971 single Brown Sugar.

Throughout the 70s he appeared on albums from Carly Simon, Barbra Streisand, Dr John, B B King, and Joe Cocker. He also backed not only Ringo, but George Harrison and John Lennon as well.

Famously, he was a part of Lennon's "Lost Weekend" and played on John's first solo #1 hit "Whatever Gets You thru the Night". In 1974 he was also present at the impromptu recording sessions between Paul McCartney and Lennon, bootlegged as A Toot and a Snore in '74.

His 1975 release of Gimme the Key on Ringo's vanity label was not a hit.

From the deep dark cold night air, @swradiogram.bsky.social 421 -- as heard/seen from WRMI on 5850 at 0800 UT. All images made it!

Let's face it, those cookie-cutter corporate FM stations have no personality and are as boring as watching paint dry. Only shortwave brings you real radio with personality that does radio the way it was meant to be done. Tune in and hear the difference. Its as easy as A B C!

@popshopradio.bsky.social From the 'cold mines' of northern Florida my decode from last night on 5950 kHz.
The Statler Bros. tune sounded like Kingston Trio's "Charlie and the MTA."
I remember a group of students doing "Good Lovin'" at a high school assembly that ROCKED the auditorium in 1967ish.

Hey kids this week we're going to show a little respect to a guy who deserves it. Before being sacked by the Beatles & replaced with Ringo Starr, Pete Best was their drummer. He tried to build a solo career but to no avail. Tune in this week to Pop Shop Radio & we'll be upstanding for Mr Peter Best.
