I will primarily post status updates or share what I've been working on. I'll be curate my feed for that purpose. I don't have much emotional bandwidth left for opinion pieces in or out.

If I unfollow or never followed you, I'm probably just trying to protect myself. It doesn't mean I dislike you.
yeah no I gave bsky an honest try but I'm gonna be dipping outta here too in favor of sticking to RSS.
I'm already falling into the trap of making weeks-long plans for things to be posted and how to best present it in a good light. Instead of just. Doing what I was gonna do and not making it a show.

okay like I KNOW subpurb owl is supposed to be a superbowl pun but I am 99% sure that I am going to make Superb Owl a cartoonish rocket launcher style weapon skin for DOOM as soon as I decide what I think that should look like

I imagine it playing the Super Mario Bros 2 slot jingle on launch

I am sure I never played this but there's a lot going on in it thematically / aestheticly that makes me feel like I must have.

Honestly I had been trying to use KDE Plasma's integrated Flatpak permission controls to allow read write access to the file system instead of Flatseal, and there is a chance I should have just used Flatseal. I can thinker with it a bit more soon.

But yeah, a bit of a bumpy process.

*despite not using X11. That was a critical miswrite on my part.
February 12, 2025 at 3:55 PM
okay I guess I felt more strongly about that than I care to admit, the site is now static and I added a notice that it won't be getting updated anymore.

"Why do this now?"

Quite simply I forgot I had a mirror blog, and my sentiments mentioned previously regarding Wordpress have only become stronger. bsky.app/profile/popp...
These are the kinds of posts I'd prefer to have on my blog instead of on BSky, but Matt Mullenwig has been acting in bad faith with Automattic and Wordpress so I've been neglecting my WP install and looking to switch to Ghost CMS /writing something custom / switching to a static site with RSS gen.

To be clear, this won't be removing the hosted level maps, padlight input viewer skins, etc from the site. This will just freeze the blog in its current state going forward.

This **will** break the search function, though.

I'll be hitting my old fandom blog backup b.risingslash.net with the SimplyStatic treatment within the next two weeks. I haven't properly maintained it in years, and leaving it up risks Wordpress shenanigans causing problems.

risingslash.tumblr.com and blog.risingslash.net should not be affected.

Just to maybe save some people some future heartache, Likes on bsky are **public** via the API. They are just not visible on the default website front-end.

I don't know why they have things this way as it gives a false sense of security, but that is my current understanding.

the repo in question:
github.com/mono/msbuild...

And the place where I got the tip:

discussions.unity.com/t/guide-setu...
Release Bootstrap msbuild only for building msbuild · mono/msbuild
This is meant for building msbuild with mono and not general use. From mono 6.12.0.137

having trouble screencapping either of them because Spectacle crashes *instantly* on launch, KShot also can't capture anything, and Flameshot half-works, but will only capture on my first monitor or full screen, setting to just the second doesn't really work.

Also got GZDoom compiled from source because the flatpak just *refuses* to see the wads for some reason even after I gave it darn near full access to my filesystem.

compiling and running it was fairly straightforward, but I question why the instructions are in a wiki page instead of a build script

alright, took me way longer than I'd have liked, but I got Ultimate Doom Builder compiled (ended up having to get msbuild from a strange github repo and get libXfixes-devel despite not using Wayland, and specifically force Breeze theme to make the text readable vs Breeze Dark)

so cuuuuuuute

I can try that too, thank you!

And I still have an X-Men VS Street Fighter Arcade 1-Up machine I can use as reference.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm not sure how usable this is for the effect I have in mind, but I appreciate the help!

I can give it a try

I keep telling myself I'll pick/make an avatar that fits me better but unless I go as abstract as "arcade machine screen's reflection of cute creatures passing by" that's not gonna happen.

seriously though if volumetric projection scanline effects weren't pain to draw, I'd probably go that route
February 11, 2025 at 4:04 PM
also I'm feeling particularly disoriented that I've started having the same "wait, is that me?" reaction to my avatar icon on bsky that I do when I see myself in the mirror in passing.

it occurs to me I've not really looked into how decorative cases are made? That might be a cool project for someday.

I *adore* Superbuns, I really hope there actually is another season getting made 🐇🎈

I really hope they sell DVDs or a BluRay sooner rather than later (they won't).

I mean, I'm making my own backups on USB flash drives either way, but I'd much rather buy an official thing with a cool decorated box.

A few months back, a family member hurt themself by mistake. Not a critical injury, but bad enough that we needed some kind of quick fix

That year, I had placed *seven* first aid kits around the house and cars. That night, I struggled to find *one* that hadn't been picked through.

cw: blood/injury mention

ACS Stop the Blood interactive online course is short and free:

Also, be familiar with your First Aid kits. Buy fresh ones if you've had to peck supplies out of old ones. Don't wanna find out the bandages are missing when you need 'em.
