In 2020 I appeared on The World at One (albeit talking about the creator of Scooby Do). In 2025 I made two crude masks out of felt and crepe paper for two fairly laboured jokes on a Dr Who YouTube Channel. How times change.

Centre right think tank attacks universities with very partial stats which then essential gives up. What a surprise. Well done everyone. Particularly the Humanities and social science grads leading the attack.

I don't watch much telly any more, but there hasn't been a performance this year (or last year), and there's unlikely to be one next year, as good as Matt Smith's in The Death of Bunny Munro. An extraordinary performer. Dr Who was lucky to have him.

One of the benefits of giving a talk on The Box of Delights is finishing the Christmas rewatch before the end of the first week of December. Watch out for wolves.

Jane Eyre and Tenant of Wildfell Hall are both better novels but where's the Wuthering Height-style banger inspired by those novels?

God love you for dragging this out lads but it's the equivalent of people complaining about/praising to the skies a bowl of vanilla ice-cream. It's nice, it's not worth losing your head about, but there's better stuff out there.

Thanks for this Grun - a letter from America, about a UK HE story, offering a solution which doesn't actually address the issue raised in the initial article. Still, it gives a kicking to the Humanities. It's like something from the Times Higher or Blue Labour.

Someone really needs to stage a revival of RUR and invite Musk to the opening night.
ELON MUSK: “If we build this robot army, do I have at least a strong influence over this robot army? … I don't feel comfortable building that robot army unless I have a strong influence.” Read the full piece from @aarianmarshall.bsky.social on @wired.com www.wired.com/story/elon-m...

The Times Higher - surely still unique in being a trade paper that seems to hate the industry about which it writes. Why not shut down all the fucking universities and turn the staff and students in batteries for Sam Altman's data centres?
Why are universities still teaching referencing styles?
In the digital era, inserting a reference into a text is as easy as pressing control-K. So why do universities still insist on troubling students with the minutiae of traditional referencing styles th...

Coming soon on @thepolisbox.bsky.social or Strictly, this bollox in McCoy's pullover defends the politics of Nation, Haisman and Lincoln, or bitches about wokeness and RTD.
The photography in this article really feels like The Times are deliberately setting these people up for ridicule. (You can read it without visiting The Times here archive.ph/KZZC1)
