Signal is also down due to Amazon AWS outage. So yeah, secure and private communication is also dependent on reliable infrastructure.

Blue cities should tear up the roads in front of ICE facilities and then start decades of community engagement and input sessions to rebuild them. Let's harness our core competencies.

We are fast becoming a banana republic, with two standards of justice. If you oppose the leader, you go to jail just for speech. If you're a loyalist, you get immunity for your crimes.

That's what happens in Iran - not the United States. This is a decision moment for America.
I miss movies written this well.

A bunch of folks have asked about my "Long Arc of Fascism" course - this is my opening lecture at our public teach-in last Spring.
Watch @naomiaklein.bsky.social open the Long Arc of Fascism teach-in by challenging the conventional, narrow understanding of fascism, particularly the idea that it is a uniquely European phenomenon that began in the 1920s or ’30s and was defeated in 1945.

You are living through the unthinkable: the president of the United States using the military to seize domestic power. The greatest crisis of executive power in American history, at the hands of the worst, most corrupt, and most unfit president in American history.

“.. Within about three minutes of the crash, the Model S uploaded a “collision snapshot”—video, CAN‑bus streams, EDR data, etc.—to Tesla’s servers .. The vehicle then deleted its local copy, resulting in Tesla being the only entity having access.”

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Please remember this torture happened to *every single person* who was kidnapped by ICE and sent to a foreign concentration camp without due process.

It doesn’t matter if they were citizens or even if they were criminals.

Every case is a violation of our Constitution and of Trump’s oath. #IMPEACH
“In Cell 15, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia and 20 other Salvadorans were forced to kneel from approximately 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM, with guards striking anyone who fell from exhaustion. During this time, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia was denied bathroom access and soiled himself…”

Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

They’re planning on building a detention center for migrants in the middle of the fetid swamps of Florida.

If you think this is something new, the first internment camp they sent me and my family to in 1942 was a barbed wire prison called Rohwer. It was located in the swamps of Arkansas.
