Whoa, everything's computer!
Client says "I have followed some patients over time and have recorded initial and final measurements. I have no control over how long patients were observed. I want to know if there is a change over time".

Do you fit

lm(final ~ initial + duration)

or

lmer(measure ~ duration + (1|patient))

I read title, abstract, first results table / graphic.

If within these 3 things I am not enticed to read on, I'm not reading it.

As a corollary, I now write with this pattern in mind.

Ok hear me out:

132% over 6 years is something like 15% growth year over year.

Thats not bad

For every topic in linear algebra I forget, there is also a topic I seem to remember remarkably well -- especially given I last took a class in 2013.

Today's amazement brought to you by Projections and orthogonal bases.

Second time doing “no drink November”.

The only thing this does is remove what little pleasure I can have when sunlight becomes scarce and the weather too cold to enjoy what sunlight remains.

Lift is a tricky estimand, so we rely on a rule of thumb to let us know when we can reliably estimate it.

The rule of thumb is not too bad.

Had a physician ask me for an extension the other day.

Yea man, it isn't homework. You get to deal with whatever the consequences are, I don't care

I'm not going to romanticize being a dentist, but I just discovered that my dentist's office is run by 4 people (all women btw!).

Small team, making money hand over first, and -- from what I can tell -- getting along? Seems like a good life to me.

Floored, flabbergasted, astonished, down right shocked at how often medical researchers try to fit a mold (i.e. do what another paper did) as opposed to understanding what they want and what it tells them
