In Volgograd region, the 500 kV "Balashovskaya" substation near Uryupinsk was hit overnight according to Russian sources. The substation plays a key role in transferring electricity from the Volzhskaya hydroelectric plant to central Russia. Local officials confirmed the strike and resulting fire.
