Are quasicrystals thermodynamic ground states? I wrote a News & Views piece for @natphys.nature.com on the work of Baek & coauthors, who used DFT (density functional theory) with clever extrapolation to show that there is strong evidence that two quasicrystals indeed are ground states. rdcu.be/eqRPM

So we do see the Milky Way all around us. As a continuum of stars in the plane and as individual stars in the other directions.

Stars in neighbouring arms or beyond are too distant and too close to each other for your eyes to see individually. So they give the image of haze. As we are in the galactic plane, this haze forms a ring around us (but it is significantly brighter towards the centre).

Every star you see is part of the milky way. If visualise a spiral galaxy, the sun is located on one arm, closer to the edge than the centre. There is one arm further outside. Stars in the same arm you see as individual stars, who the ancients grouped into constellations.

Our communities don’t need advice they need immediate action.
