Around 26,000 of the neediest people in County Durham will have to start paying council tax next year...

About 2,400 others who already pay some council tax will lose part of their rebate.

Women and the disabled will be disproportionately affected.

Not quite what Reform UK had promised.
Council tax shock for thousands of Durham’s poorest – thanks to Reform UK
Durham will scrap full council-tax rebates, forcing 26,000 low-income working-age residents to start paying for the first time

Still thinking about last night’s film l, Give Me Pity! Listened to some of the musical numbers a few times too. This one was a favourite- for obvious reasons there’s Better Midler comparisons, but I thought the spoken word bits had a welcome Ann Magnuson vibe.

A few months ago a journalist claimed video rental stores were rubbish actually. Here we have why that’s not true. My online recommendations tend to come from cool weirdos with blogs not updated for about 15 years.
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Mucking about with different paper types on the home printer to see how the compare to on screen colours as colour still remains a bit of a mystery to me. Should have printed the Crimson Devil one at A3 as it was drawn at A1 for an exhibition run by @chadbily.eu at the big Amsterdam library

New work!

Available for pre-order now from Umbrella Entertainment - I had an absolute blast creating the cover art for the criminally underseen 90s sci-fi action treat NO ESCAPE.

A huge thank you to @oneblakeminute.bsky.social for having me onboard!

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

So...

A back injury bad enough to warrant an A&E MRI scan who then insisted on specialist spinal treatment.
Cracked vertebrae & herniated/bulging discs really stops you doing stuff.

Just told that NHS wait times are so long that the soonest help will be a phone consultation in Feb at the earliest.
OK, going to have trouble paying rent again this month due to back injury.

Would appreciate so much the spreading of my online shop to get some cool orders sent out next week.
All signed.
