I'm coming back to this conversation after months because I just came across @nancyduarte.bsky.social's framing of explanatory as a step further from exploratory, adding value really. I personally feel this disregards the work of exploratory viz, but I'm curious to hear what other folks think 📊

¿Qué libros sobre #dataviz existen en español, para introducir a nuevas personas en el campo? A @albertocairo.com le escuché nombrar "La esquemática" de Joan Costa. ¿Cuáles más hay?

From Christian saints to folk and pagan traditions, gift-bringers vary widely across Europe, and Father Christmas isn’t the only one delivering presents.

In Eastern Europe, it's often Grandfather Frost (Ded Moroz), a jolly, bearded figure clad in a long coat.

Santa nailed it this year! 🎅

I won one of @katgreenbrook.bsky.social's 12 Days of Christmas giveaways and got The Data Storyteller’s Handbook + Chart Spark by @allitorban.bsky.social. Perfect summer reading! 🎁 Huge thanks to Kat & Alli for this thoughtful gift.

I hope everyone had a lovely Xmas 🎄

Others have noted it but I will too: The big reason Bluesky is so hot right now is that the people who add value to social media - the frequent posters in specific fields - are here now, talking to each other and creating the "spectator value" that draws users and attention.

Advice worth including on the first page of every data viz textbook?

"A clever #dataviz that presents information its audience doesn't care about in a way they can't understand is useless."
Who's going to decide how they'd personally weight the relative values of bronze, silver, and gold medal on double-log scale?

Hello Bsky 🦋👋. Today , I made this chart 📊 for The European Correspondent, showing the boom we're seeing over on this side.

I used Google Trends data, but I'm curious to know what other public sources you would've used to show this increase in popularity

If lists are more your thing, the #dataviz feed is based on this list of users. More than 250 data viz folks from all corners of the community 🎉
The data viz feed is actually based on a list! So we do have a start to one, although it only includes accounts who have signed up to post on that feed, so it is missing some folks.
