Power is unusually centralised in the UK. Labour can ensure it cascades deeply and widely.

@paulabarkermp.bsky.social argues for a bold approach to fiscal devolution to build on this week's 'tourist tax' progress.

The 'tourist tax' should be just the start of a bold approach to fiscal devolution
The visitor economy is not a niche subject: tourism is the UK’s third-largest service export, directly contributing £58bn to the economy in 2023.

The visitor levy is a fantastic first step in what needs to be a more progressive and bold approach to fiscal devolution.

This is shocking: Nearly 1,000 households in England seek support for homelessness every single day.

The UK Govt must publish its homelessness strategy urgently and deliver social homes for people in desperate need.

The majority of households impacted by the two-child limit are working households. And, as such, there is no faster, more effective, or better value-for-money way to fight child poverty other than lifting the two-child benefit limit.

I am delighted that the chancellor has finally announced our government will be removing the two-child limit imposed by the Tories.

This will not only help to lift 450,00 children out of poverty nationally, but it will help over 2,400 children here in Liverpool Wavertree.

It was an honour to attend the RNIB’s ‘Out of Sight: vision rehabilitation’ drop-in.

I heard about the difference that timely access to local authority support - known as vision rehabilitation, can make, and learnt more about this vital but often overlooked part of social care.

Today is White Ribbon Day – a day of awareness about violence against women and girls. This year’s theme is ‘we speak up’.

I’m speaking up this White Ribbon Day because even small, everyday actions matter to prevent a culture that allows violence against women and girls to happen.

I am pleased to be one of 125 colleagues to call for the introduction of targeted screening for prostate cancer.

No man should die because of his postcode, ethnicity, or GP access.

Great to attend the Sainsburys News Parliamentary Reception, to meet with their colleagues, farmers, suppliers and charity partners, and hear about the positive impact Sainsbury’s are playing in the UK economy and closer to home in Liverpool.

It was lovely to catch up with students from Bluecoat School.

We discussed road traffic issues around the school, mental health issues, politics including integration & a sense of belonging.

Thanks to the students for being so engaging & Headteacher, Mr Sexton for inviting me.

Inequality is growing, poverty is rising and our public services are declining. I back the Patriotic Millionaires call for those with the broadest shoulders to contribute more.

I joined 80 colleagues in demanding the UK government act to stop Israel's settler violence and forced dispossession of Palestinians in communities like Umm al Khair

On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember those whose lives have been lost to transphobic hate and violence.

Everyone in London and around the world deserves to live with dignity and be safe from harm.

Funeral Experts provide non-clinical, practical and emotional support to the bereaved and to those at the end of life.

Their service is entirely free of charge, and anyone can be referred, including through self-referral. The leaflet below outlines the range of support they offer.

It's Carers Rights Day!

Carers Rights Day is about raising awareness of the rights the UK’s 5.8 million unpaid carers are entitled to, and to help them get the support they need and the recognition they deserve.

This year’s theme is ‘Know your rights, use your rights’ 👇

I was pleased to join Show Racism the Red Card and Amnesty UK to show my support for tackling racism and Islamophobia.

This #InternationalMensDay we’re reminded that suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK. We all have mental health, and talking about it matters. Check in with the men in your life. Reach out. A small conversation can make a big difference.

This #NCLM25 I'm encouraging care leavers to #TickTheBox on their UCAS form when applying for college or university, to say they've spent time in care.

This will make sure they get the support they're entitled to - from financial assistance to help with wellbeing.

It was wonderful to visit Kings Leadership Academy in my constituency today.

It took us a long time to get it over the line but I'm delighted we did.

The feedback I have received about the school is incredibly positive & was also clear to see with the pupils.

An important piece from Paula Barker MP on the cycle of domestic abuse and homelessness.

This is why supported housing schemes for survivors of abuse are so vital – schemes which are increasingly at risk of closing due to huge cuts to funding. We must #SaveOurSupportedHousing.

Today, we remember all those who have died in service of our country, and express gratitude to the brave personnel who continue to serve.

We will never forget the sacrifice and service of those who defended our country and fought for our freedom.
