"Bristol is beginning to see the benefits of a Green approach to governing: one that prioritises genuine prevention over instead of sticking plaster treatments, a philosophy at the heart of our financial mindset."

A pleasure to attend the switching on of the Christmas lights at the @ssgreatbritain.bsky.social this evening!

There was some beautiful singing and a pleasingly traditionally-attired Santa to boot 🎅

Disappointing and frustrating that Labour has ducked the chance for meaningful council tax reform.

Instead they have tinkered at the edges with half-measures that won't substantially improve council finances or the system's fairness.

Without proper change, local services will continue to decline.

Labour again going for inefficient + incremental measures to keep the budget afloat.

Frankly, their polling is so bad, they should grasp the nettle of reforming policies everyone knows are bad but is too scared to touch. Ie the fuel duty freeze and triple lock, tax cliff edges, a land value tax...

The nonreligious Hotwells School in Bristol has been saved from amalgamation into a C of E school.

Our schools need to bring families of different religions and beliefs together, not segregate them according to religion.

We're mentioned👇

David Dimbleby helped save 100-year-old secular school from merging with faith school
It could have been merged with Cathedral Primary School

The UK is in crisis with bills skyrocketing & families struggling to make ends meet

We need a transformative budget to make life affordable again

But it looks like what we're getting instead is half-measures

We need to fix the foundations - instead we've got a quick paint job

Always a pleasure to be invited to speak at the Baltic Wharf residents AGM for the annual Councillor Q&A. It's a great chance to share information, answer questions and pick up casework. Thanks for having me!

“This is a fantastic victory for the children and families... who were extremely clear from the start that they did not want their inclusive, secular school taken over by a religious one”

Our head of campaigns is quoted on the Hotwells school campaign👇

But there is still uncertainty over the future of one of Bristol's smallest primary schools

Today, I and other @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social councillors approved *£53,000* to refurbish the Brandon Hill ponds and get a replacement waterfall pump! 🌊

I am so happy that this site of such importance will once again flourish and flow, delighting visitors and supporting the park's wildlife. 🐸

A fantastic doorknocking session this evening in Hotwells & Harbourside. The cold can't keep the Greens down! 💪

Lots of support on the doors for @bristolgreenparty.bsky.social and the work @carladenyer.bsky.social and myself are doing in the area, and picked up some face-to-face casework as well 💚

Great to speak at the Bristol Green Party AGM as the Council's finance chair, talking to our members about the successes and challenges of setting Bristol's billion pound budget in this time of continued spending constraint from national government.

Bristol Green councillors again turned out to help stand between anti-migrant protestors and a hotel housing vulnerable asylum seekers.

The protesters claim to "defend women and girls" but what about the terrified women and girls who are living in the hotel thanks to the UK's broken asylum system?

Once again, anti-migrant protests are happening outside a Bristol hotel sheltering asylum seekers. As @heathermackbristol.bsky.social wrote a few weeks ago: 'Targeting hotels full of children is not the answer to our problems.'

Another day at the picket line supporting the striking school support workers! 🤝

Got to spend more time with the lovely Mabel 🐶 as well.

Schools could not run without support staff, and society could not run without schools.

Powerful questioning from my colleague @elliechowns.bsky.social, pinning the government on exactly what it needs to do - NOW - to bring about an end to the atrocities being committed in Sudan.
In the midst of horrific mass killings and violence, British-made military equipment has been found in Sudan.

It's clear our arms export licensing system is not fit for purpose; we need a full review, alongside an embargo on all arms exports to the UAE now.

Me for @bristolpost.co.uk:

“It’s really important that as politicians we come down and support workers when they are striking for better pay and conditions.

"I fully support the ask of the workers and the support staff who are absolutely essential in running the schools today."

✊ Inspiring to join this morning's picket in my ward, in solidarity with the school support staff strike for back pay

📢 I read a statement of support from @carladenyer.bsky.social, in Parliament today
