Today is James Platt’s 97th birthday, and he offered remarks at the Memorial Day observance held in Pomfret. Mr. Platt spoke of his time serving in Japan during World War II and the various ways that Pomfret has observed Memorial Day over the years.

Midway Restaurant in Ashford is a staple of the community and a gathering spot for many. After a devastating fire caused it to close in 2022, the owners regrouped, and Midway reopened with a full renovation over the summer of 2024.
