Yes!! This!

We must take a long view on how research impacts society, not pull our heads into our shell and put blinders on.

Federal research funding works. It’s not an expense–it’s an investment. It’s not overhead–it’s a down payment on the future. The value of computing research has never been greater cacm.acm.org/federal-fund... #research #science #NIH #NSF

Domesticated animals have pulled our heavy carts and turned our large mills for centuries. But what about the opposite end of the spectrum—what if the wheel you want to turn is so small you can’t see it?

Turns out we can harness the power of bacteria to power the world’s smallest machines.

Truth bomb!
A Christianity that causes the hungry to go without food, the sick to go without healthcare, the stranger to be mistreated, and God’s creation to be ravaged, all while the greedy and cruel satisfy their every desire, is a Christianity that can no longer claim to follow Christ.

Spending Sunday night grading.

Currently, I hate the version of me that added this last problem to just "see how they'll handle it."

Anyone else spending Sunday evening with a red pen in hand? At least I have a nice fountain pen for grading.

How do research funding cuts hurt the US? There are many ways to answer that question. For a dollars and cents perspective, you can read this analysis.

"Cutting federal R&D by 20% would cost the U.S. economy up to almost $1.5 trillion compared with China’s growth pace."

How Reducing Federal R&D Reduces GDP Growth
Cutting federal investments in R&D may appear to save billions in the budget, but it could cost the economy trillions. In fact, ITIF estimates that cutting federal R&D by 20 percent would cost the U.S...

The problem isn’t just getting people to think scientifically.

It’s getting them to want to…

Researchers in the Johnson Lab have shown that chemotherapy drugs carried by a bottlebrush polymer can be attached to an antibody, which guides the molecule to a tumor. This approach could avoid many of the side effects of systemic chemotherapy delivery.

I've been doing this long enough to see this downturn. It always shocks me when someone expresses serious science skepticism.

Rebuilding confidence will be a huge job.

WELL NOW, would you look at that? A massive, 24-YEAR-LONG study of MORE THAN 1.2 MILLION people in Denmark found NO LINK between aluminum in childhood vaccines and autism, asthma, OR chronic disorders.

Aluminum is an ADJUVANT.

It ENHANCES your immune response to a vaccine.

That’s it.
