The loneliness epidemic may make this effect greater, but community-building is important regardless of the social context.

The religious right has enjoyed the benefits of close-knit communities for centuries in the U.S.

It’s time the left starts creating strong communities as well.

Any list of best live action series that doesn’t have Mr. Robot in the top 10 is wrong—invalid if it’s not in the top 25 at the very least.

I can’t wait for Reddit alternatives like Lobsters or Lemmy to take off.

I’m honestly surprised people flocked back after the 2022 protests. The mask came off about how little Reddit values anyone: users, devs, & especially mods.

Now this shows how little they value safety.

After having just decided on trying #komorebi on Windows (and soon macOS), I saw #niri… and now I want that 🙃

In case anyone is interested:

macOS: PaperWM.spoon [1]
Windows: windowpots [2]

Any #macOS tiling window manager suggestions from folks here?

Reasons for the suggestion are appreciated!

Anyone here tried #Beli?

New invite-only #restaurant tracking app.

Yelp: stuck in early 2010s
Google: monopolistic, surveillance capitalism’s mascot, etc.

Invite code below. FYI, helps me unlock reservations & premium features; expires in 24 hours:

Saw some coverage about Musk recently that was praising his work ethic: “12-hour days, sometimes weekends and nights,” justifying why his huge pay packages.

… okay?

So do doctors, PAs, nurses and several millions of other professionals. Are we all worth possibly >$1T? Where do we sign?

Finally! 🎉

No more having to manually, painstakingly recreate a playlist from #Spotify on #AppleMusic or rely on a fishy-looking 3rd party service with which you have to trust both accounts’ details (which is why I never went that route).
🎶 In iOS 26 you can import playlists from other services into Apple Music!
So when you see someone publish a cool Spotify playlist you can:
1️⃣ Add to your free Spotify account
2️⃣ (iOS) Settings, Apps, Music
3️⃣ Look for “Transfer music…”
4️⃣ Select Spotify…
Then authenticate and select the playlist.

Lesson re-learned: never seek out the Internet’s opinion on a thing one likes (especially amongst gamers).

#Pokémon games focus on mechanics, not stellar graphics.

Yet, so many criticisms focus on the #LegendsZ-A demo’s “lackluster graphics” and chastise anyone who buys the game as being a sheep.

Not sure how, but even with more animations, #iOS26 feels snappier on my iPhone 13 Pro than iOS 18.6 did: color me surprised!

Certainly an oddity with the history of #Apple performance-throttling older models.

Glad to see they’re both supporting & enhancing (or so it feels) older products.

Ah, days before #Apple (thankfully) kills off #Launchpad... I spend around half an hour painstakingly organizing Launchpad. Of course.

If I'd procrastinated another week, it would've been a non-issue.

For 3 years, I procrastinated; what possessed me to stop today, of all days?

America: “We’re imperfect? Talk to us when you’ve landed a person on the freaking moon! 🦅🇺🇸”

Also America: “Let’s hamstring the institution that made the moon landing possible!”
NASA has announced a significant reduction in its workforce, with approximately 20% of its employees expected to depart the agency soon. Around 3,870 positions will be cut, though that number may shift in the coming days. Following the reduction, NASA’s workforce is projected to total about 14,000.

Well, this is interesting...

Used ChatGPT to help me bootstrap my #Zsh + Zinit config.

o4-mini kept hallucinating; o3-pro got it right.

I switched back to o4-mini in the chat to say thanks.

o4-mini is confused since it thinks I'm still criticizing it.

It seems to not "see" o3-pro's response.

So this is wild (in a good way):

Since RFK's come into office, I've actually seen an *increase* in the number of patients coming to clinic and requesting vaccines.

No hard data, just anecdotal. But a palpable increase.

Refreshing compared to combating anti-vaxx misinformation.

Aggressive pickup truck driver intimidating others by nearly rear-ending them, cutting them off, trying to overtake using bike lanes, and then flipping everyone else off as if we’re the problem…

Tell me you’re entitled and compensating without telling me you’re entitled and compensating.

The DOJ is moving to deport a man they explicitly acknowledge has no criminal history.

They’re dropping the charges without a trial, yet also deporting him without due process or reason for deportation, especially since the charges are dropped.

It’s quite damning of our species that even after billions have seen/read media like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc. about authoritarianism clearly being bad, they still gravitate towards it.

We probably need explicit statements in the front matter: “The authoritarians are the bad ones, guys.”
Every time I think that maybe I need to be more subtle with my writing I come across someone who's read my books yet missed stuff I thought were pretty obvious and I'm like....OK maybe I need to state my points MORE bluntly

Still frustrated at YouTube’s algo for ignoring preferences*, but I’m amused that it’s now showing cute bear vids in my feed…

Maybe because I kept searching for “bear” market analyses? 🐻

In the run up to “Liberation Day,” three countries with deep historical antipathy have strengthened a formerly tenuous alliance to unify against the U.S.

“Liberation Day” indeed: liberate the world of American diplomacy, influence, & status.

I’d say “unbelievable,” but this is on brand.

The current admin is stonewalling 20k people already granted #refugee status, now only entertaining white South African refugees.

Heartbreaking… and a clear signal of priorities.

Fun fact: security clearances are stored as 8-bit unsigned integers!

So if we say @adamkinzinger.bsky.social had 1 security clearance, and he loses 4, this causes an integer underflow such that he actually has 253 security clearances.
This means I now have negative 4 security clearances
Adam Kinzinger’s security clearance is revoked every weekend. Deeply bizarre stuff.
