Sure, this article is nominally about ICE, but actually it is about the techno-surveillance environment surrounding us in most societies. We're all vulnerable - here in Europe too.

You say LinkedIn is terrible, but the first post in my feed this morning asked for advice on how to dress for -25°C cycle commute to avoid shortness of breath. The commenters all already know how to layer up to stay warm except for their faces and breathing.

Not the point of the article, but good that these were Spanish aircrafts. Shows how all of Europe is involved in the defence of the eastern flank.

It used to be that executives of public companies were held to a standard of "can not lie to prospective investors". It was not a high bar - but even that bar no longer applies.

As I've been saying for a while - putin can't afford an end to the war now. His army returning home with little to show for it would be a domestic disaster. This and more from Mick Ryan.

The strategic goal on the other hand is to acquire sole rights to swath of sun-synchronous orbits so that no other party can plan to use them. As if they would in fact respect such a land grab (sic).

But none of that is relevant to the investors who have already bought all the other AI hype. To them, this is a signal the bubble does not exist (it does), and a reason to plunk more money into a grift vehicle.

To run one current-gen compute rack in space, the satellite would have to have about 500 m² of solar panels in continuous sunlight. It would also somehow magically need to radiate half a megawatt of heat - 100 kW electrical, plus all the solar heating those panels couldn't convert to electricity.
February 1, 2026 at 6:53 AM
Even if SpaceX had the capacity to perform a high-orbit launch every day on a vehicle which fits 50 satellites each time, it would take them 55 years to put up those satellites. Does anyone think a 55 year old "AI data center" remains useful?
February 1, 2026 at 6:49 AM
This is two things:
- an audacious claim designed to woo credulous investors in upcoming IPO
- a stake for those orbits to deny anyone else room in that space

Obviously, it's not feasible on practical level, but just like all other AI grift, it's not intended to be […]

Great news from @Mastodon at #fosdem: they're going to change the default server recommendation away from mastodon.social, to a geographically and linguistically appropriate instance for all new users.

It'll be opt-in for server admins, too, which is great. ❤️

Gold market lost about 3 trillion in "value" and then regained within an hour. France could have paid its whole national debt. Estonia could have been run for 200 years. And nobody knows what happened. Panic triger, assult, train dump? Amazing
so silver dropped 12%, and gold 8% in *60 minutes* and they just shook it off and are totally fine. never seen anything like what’s been happening here this week
