Let me give some insight on this, as a producer in the dub industry who worked with major streamers, who's witnessed first-hand where this push for AI is coming from.

CD Projekt Red has announced this evening that Cyberpunk 2077 has now shifted over 35 million copies worldwide. The game got blasted on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at launch as it didn't run very well and was apparently a bit of a buggy mess. However, the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC version were fairly highly regarded especially the Phantom Liberty downloadable expansion. Cyberpunk 2077 is available on Nintendo Switch 2.

"I DNF first-person books if I can't relate to the protagonist" is a kind of illiteracy.
The point of first person is not to insert yourself into a narrative. You are supposed to experience and empathize with the perspective of a character that is intended to be fully fleshed out.
