This upcoming @discotekmedia.bsky.social release is absolutely worth picking up if you’re a fan of gag dubs like Ghost Stories & Lupin the 3rd: Part II
I still laugh hysterically at some of the moments of this Funimation dub, but this one exchange might be my fav
Very professional manga shelf setup Dave! Reminds me of the smaller indie comic shops around downtown Toronto like The Beguiling & Anime Xtreme that have manga lined & organized like this
@scottniswander.bsky.social Crimson Peak was shot in & around where I live in Toronto: in fact the ballroom scene was shot at the historic Casa Loma in my neighborhood, which has often appeared in film & tv like Scott Pilgrim
Seeing a preview Del Toro’s Frankenstein tomorrow & am excited!
I often say to folks who bring him up that you can tell which episodes of The Jetsons are from the 80s revival (other than the frequent digital ink-and-paint look) because his Mr. Spacely voice is a lot raspier. He still crushes it tho
The laugh track is the least of the problems. The drag isn’t at all convincing, has a stereotype view of women & that they only eat lettuce on their lunch break
How they could sustain this premise for multiple seasons I have no idea
I’ll always remember that @miketoole.com was extremely lucky to get a fantastic deal of GKids/Shout! factory’s release of the limited edition of the Evangelion TV series (with the original English dub included) on the CR store just before it went OOP.
Aniplex…don’t they release an expensive LE of their releases limited to the Crunchyroll store (RightStuf before that I’m guessing?) first for a period of like 6-8 months or so like this one before releasing a basically regular “vanilla” Blu-ray later on?
Rented Shadows of the Empire for N64 frequently from Blockbuster as a kid. Yes the game is dated by today’s standards & had gameplay issues even back then but for its time & hardware limitations, it was & is a fun if sometimes frustrating to play ride
& their new menu items since the BK/Popeyes/Firehouse subs merger taste like garbage. The pizza especially 🤢
I miss back in the 90s when they were owned by Wendy’s where if you dined in-store, they would serve hot drinks & soup to you in ceramic cups & bowls. Gave Timmies that amazing homely feel
Then jump ahead after emissary to Duet. One of the best DS9 eps.
Other favs are The Visitor, Trials & Tribble-ations, Tacking into the Wind & my personal fav episode not only for the show but for the entire Star Trek franchise: In the Pale Moonlight
