Following yesterday’s ride on the DSB variant, I’m subjecting myself to more Talgo riding this morning as I try the brand new DB ICE L. Boarding here was a smart move as it’s expected to get VERY busy at Hbf for the 5 hour ride to Cologne this morning, let’s go!

A LOT to say about these trains, but definitely a step-up to the other models Talgo’s produced in terms of ride comfort. The capacity boost is also very much welcome!

The platform heights here are extremely low even for the Talgos, so all passengers boarding and alighting need to use these steps from one carriage…

Time for my return to Germany and this time it’s one of DSB’s new Talgo 230 sets! Would seem there’s already an issue with the PIS as where we’ll end up is currently unknown… 😳

It’s now a quick turnaround to Copenhagen on a pair of IC4 DMUs, another AnsaldoBreda scandal that somehow survived here in Denmark. Funnily enough the station here has a few seats from them (or maybe the IC2s?) in the waiting room, which is pretty cool!

This morning I’m trying out Norway’s fastest train, the infamous Flytoget Type 78 CAF “Oaris” that was withdrawn from service after 19 days in 2021 due to cracks but re-entered service in late 2023 once fixed. Going to be an interesting journey back to Oslo, let’s go!

Right on time into Oslo - I’ll have more to say in the video when I release it next year, but a very decent middle ground between sleeper and seated accommodations. If only more European sleeper trains had this!

This is currently the only sleeper train in Europe to have this concept, so quite curious to see what it’s like. Hopefully I get some sleep hey 😅

My next round in Norway begins with a day trip along the Bergensbanen and back, one of the world’s most scenic railway journeys!
When initially booking my interrail reservation I was informed Pluss class was unavailable, but it was unexpectedly in the consist so should be a great trip 😁

Having had a brief preview of Norway back in April, it’s time to finally spend a few proper days here to check out some more of its railways. For now though it’s a VY X74 to my hotel to avoid the rip off Flytoget fares…

Made it on time despite several hiccups after crossing the border - lack of capacity aside these trains are great, hopefully the Talgos will bring improvements to the route from a passenger load perspective!
