And that’s my last ever GWR HST - 43004 and 43156 leading the second Castle Class set out today.

A very bittersweet day, but I really lucked out with the weather. Couldn’t have had a better time to send off these 50 year old workhorses 🫡

Now to join another Cattle Class set back to London!

Let’s get back to Plymouth 🫡

📍 Plymouth

Crossing back into Devon proved faster than sticking around in Penzance for where I needed to go - time to cross counties once again on another Cattle Class set…

Back to Devon for me now, albeit on a pair of Cattle Class sets this time - fittingly 43004, GWR’s oldest power car, pulls in as its youngest one returns to Plymouth. I’m sure I’ll see it again later 😉

📍Penzance

Can’t think of a better place to wrap up the end of HSTs finishing in England than at the very Southern tip of the British railway network with the very last production power car. GWR have really let them go externally though, let’s hope they get a clean before they’re shipped to Mexico!

There was previously one Saturday diagram for the GWR HSTs that ran from Exeter, but it wouldn’t continue to Penzance. With their operations ending in a few weeks, that diagram now goes to Cornwall, which frees up the original weekday I had planned for it next month. Let’s go around one last time…

📍 Exeter St Davids

Made it to tonight’s base camp - those of you who can connect 2 and 2 together will know why I’m here and what I’m doing tomorrow. If not, see you in the morning for something fun 👀

Off to the South West tonight, this time it’s personal…

It’s official - the Class 800 will have the same seats as an American commuter train 💀

The channel’s now reached 40k subscribers… I continue to be humbled by how much people enjoy my content and just how far it’s come in the last almost 4 years, especially given I’m balancing this with my main (and hectic!) full time job.

Thank you so much for your continued support 🙏❤️

It would seem ÖBB has FINALLY listened and dropped the ridiculous dynamic pricing model on its international sleeper routes - the examples below are regular tickets for Amsterdam to Vienna and Brussels to Vienna 3 weeks in advance. Provided they keep this up, I may be tempted to use them more now!

📍 St Pancras International

Engineering works on the ECML this weekend of course means chaos on the MML - still managed to sort out the weekend first upgrade, a fitting end to what’s likely my last ride home on a Meridian!

Time to head home - another 3 hour “Cattle Class” ride awaits…

Now onto the worser Hitachi unit as I head South West on business…

Made a quick stop here to check out EMR’s new “Aurora” out on test, they look fantastic!

Excited to try them out next month 👀

Hopefully the fares will be cheaper than what Nightjet offered as well, great news!
BREAKING: European Sleeper will start a Paris-Berlin sleeper train from 26 March 2026, after Nightjet pulls out in December.
It'll run via Brussels (with Eurostar connection from London) 3 times a week. This + existing train = Brussels-Berlin 6 times a week. www.europeansleeper.eu/paris

With the UP Express suspended due to GO Transit engineering works, my trip ends with a Rail Replacement Bus to the airport for my flight home 🥲

Canada it’s been an absolute pleasure, I look forward to coming back some day 🇨🇦❤️

The comings and goings of Toronto Union Station… 🇨🇦

Been a fun day out to Niagara Falls, but I best be getting back to Toronto now - instead of having to wait hours for the direct GO train or take a bus, I opted to use the Amtrak/Via Rail “Maple Leaf” for its Canadian leg. My Via Preference Points came in handy here, covering the entire fare 😎

📍 Niagara Falls, ON

The town centre is as far as I can go by train - getting to the falls themselves requires manning up and transferring onto a local bus, but doing so certainly didn’t disappoint… 😍🇨🇦

Morning!

Today I’m taking my first ride with GO Transit which is on the “Express” limited stop service to Niagara Falls, a journey of around 2ish hours. 6 return services run on weekdays, upped to 8 on weekends in addition to Amtrak/Via’s “Maple Leaf”. Let’s go! 🇨🇦
November 6, 2025 at 2:25 PM
📍 Toronto Union Station

4 min late arrival, which wraps up my time with Via Rail - can’t say many aspects of their boarding and alighting practices have made filming these journeys easy, but we got there in the end 😁

I have 3 more days in Toronto, mostly for resting and others for tourist stuff… 🇨🇦
November 5, 2025 at 6:28 PM
A short and sweet stay in London (🇨🇦) as I’m heading back to Toronto on board Via’s LRC coaches. Certain routes out of Windsor and Montreal to Toronto are the last ones these coaches are doing as they, like the HEP2s, are progressively replaced by the new Venture sets. Let’s go!
