And at its root, no pun intended, is a lack of funding and intelligent legislation that can *depend* on funding to be structured in such a way with long term goals in mind (versus making short term decisions to save on cost)

So I think, while I could successfully appeal it, the result would be to stick some random with a potential ~$5000 cost… I don’t have a conclusion I’m just like…shit once again the problem is the system ™️

I now know way too much about Portland tree code. The crux issue is that Portland (and tons of places) makes sidewalk repair the responsibility of homeowners, so anyone who isn’t made of money basically opts to take down trees, rather than build sidewalk to accommodate the root system.

My strategy in this situation was to gently explain what was happening and then tell it it can have a home in the jaguar sculpture I just bought at the thrift store lol. Not sure if that is of any use to a mulberry tree, but, in case.

Update the sign is lying - as of July the fee is waived. So if you’re interested in filing an appeal I think you could do that for free. Lmk if you want the info for the tree.

It’s a city tree. I called the number and no one answered, and then looked up the permit nd called that number and again no one answered. One could pay the $200 bucks to get a hearing scheduled that seems like the actual strategy. Its roots are cracking the sidewalk, that’s why it’s slated for 💀

A tree just summoned me from across the street, I had no idea why I was drawn over, only to see that it has a notice pinned to it that it’s been tentative approved to be cut down, as of today 😭 idk what I’m to do about it but it’s a very sweet mulberry, whose leaves kept reaching up to touch my face
