Intro post!

I'm David, 41, and I work as the resident Database Editor at TheGamer. Lots of behind the scenes shenanigans.

Having spent a decade as an ESL teacher in Poland, I've now been in games for eight years across social media, community, marketing, and editorial.
Upon reflection, the best bit of The Game Awards was Flute Guy playing a different flute every time the camera panned to him. 😅

Ending the reveals with a live service game, yikes.

I love how excited Ben Starr was for Jennifer English (very deservedly) winning that award.

Didn't manage to nap, covid brain in full swing, somehow got to stay awake long enough to make database entries for every single game shown. I am very much looking forward to passing out for two whole days after this.

Good luck to everyone covering The Game Trailers 2025!

My top three in order would have been Firewatch, No Man's Sky, World of Final Fantasy.

Now I'd swap No Man's Sky for Firewatch, but same top three.
Quote this with what you would have said your game of the year was at the end of 2016, and what you would say your favourite game of 2016 is now, if it differs

In a race completely without incident, what are the chances one of a certain three cars happens to crash?

Oh dear. Have Red Bull given the stewards an excuse to manipulate the result again?

Why is Octopath Traveler 0 £39.99 on Steam, but £49.99 on Switch 2?

I'd rather get it on Switch 2, but that markup is obscene.

My review is up for Octopath Traveler 0! It's got some blemishes, but hot damn, it's got heart. Easily the best story in the series, and unequivocally the boldest.

Octopath Traveler 0 Review - Stay For The Story
Scattered gameplay issues aside, Octopath Traveler 0's bold storytelling and surprisingly decent town-building combine to forge a fantastic RPG.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is almost two decades in the making and it's arguably worth the wait? #MetroidPrime4

A faithful evolution of the series with a great world and strong characters that carried me all the way through to the end.

After I was floored by Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2 it's no surprise that Assassin's Creed Shadows also delivers.

I've only spent a couple of hours with it so far but it's quite an achievement how the full experience works so well here.

Cosmic Invasion is yet another great beat ‘em up from the masters at Tribute, although Shredder’s Revenge still stands as my all-time favourite. My review: www.thegamer.com/marvel-cosmi...
Marvel Cosmic Invasion Doesn’t Steal TMNT’s Crown, But It’s Still Marvellous
Cosmic Invasion’s varied roster and standout tag team mechanic make it a fantastic brawler, even if it doesn’t quite reach the heights of TMNT.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

There is hope yet.

MORE CLAIR OBSCUR content. I'm replaying it right now so it's the only thing on my brain.

So, Charlie Cox is right and we should be giving recognition to motion/performance capture artists. Perhaps in a new category at The Game Awards?

A few words on that:

Why Charlie Cox Is Right About His Performance In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Charlie Cox steals the show as Gustave in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but he's only one piece in a much bigger puzzle.
