I love the point @alansiegella.bsky.social makes about the monorail salesman Lyle Lanley in “Stupid TV, Be More Funny.” I know @jcbradbury.bsky.social has used him often to illustrate the “public-bilking con men” of publicly-funded stadium supporters. Does Lyle make the book, JC?

From the start the animated series was a funhouse mirror reflection of America. But its scope expanded, the primetime cartoon also began to see where the country was headed. Lyle Lanley wasn’t real, but public-bilking con men like him were out there. And he’s now a stand-in for a depressingly common archetype.
