Me: Supply chain attacks are an under discussed vulnerability in the developer tool ecosystem.
Also me: Time to download a theme created by "Bob Smith", because Darcula isn't colorful enough

This is where I think primary and secondary educators need to be more in sync. A consistent thing I've heard from primary educators I know is that the massive introduction of technology in the primary education classroom has had a drastic downward effect on students.
This is not a "students today" post--it's more "this is a new form of dysfunction" that doesn't look exactly like it's been in previous decades. It's more than just "first-year chaos." It's an across-the-board inability to process instructions, engage with longer texts, and *connect* with others.

Mediocre turkey is in the oven. Roasted onions and shallots are for a much better tart I'm making later. Happy Thanksgiving everyone, may your turkey benefit from gravy

As you’re preparing for your Thanksgiving meal, remember the skilled work it took to get that food to your grocery store.

Tell us your favorite Thanksgiving dish, and we can share some of what we know about the work behind the ingredients.

Daughter has started to actually play with me (hands me a toy and reaches for me to give it back). 10/10, would recommend. AAA Game of the Year

This kind of gets to part of some of the AI derp, there's a conflation of replacing the laborer vs replacing the labor.
I think this is broadly: "we want to use it to replace labor or replace the labor needed to replace labor but it sucks at replacing labor"

Another element of "enshittification" (for whatever that term is worth) is less services getting worse and more half-assed features with little chance of remediation on failure. Automated messaging being the most common example.

What's the likelihood that Ted Sandyman becomes a folk hero after the Shire formally abandons the Thane/rule of gentry for a real republic?

About halfway through this and my biggest takeaway is that we need an Total War: Empire 2 that starts in 1600
This gets to it but you’ll want to look at the Military Revolution theory books, mostly those by Peter H Wilson

This seems a good start on that theory

Tapping the sign re: the SAT
That's kind of my more radical take is "we don't need to measure for talent"
November 25, 2025 at 10:41 PM
Thinking about this more, and definitely not knowledgeable enough to parse this out, but I do have a sense that this is different than "faith" in a way that's meaningful
There's probably a perverse way that having higher education can actually push one further away from scientific thinking, after all who needs something as petty as empiricism when you have knowledge and theory.
I'm literally just living a normal life while also experiencing a theophany via communication with the satellite called VALIS.

Two big issues were,
1. Keeping AtLA characters alive tightened the time jump a bit too much, and
2. Not committing to how the tech is integrated into the world consistently. It never feels "Avatar-punk" in thr way I think it's intended to. You just get "wow a car in Avatar!!"
(It’s a shame that Korra is in the shadow of a show with much better characters and writing, because having a fantasy worlds history and technology actually advance is a good thing)

I'm having fun with this, so I'll pose a question: student A gets a good SAT score and goes to college. Student B does not and enters the workforce. Student A can enter the workforce on the merit of their degree. Student B cannot enter college on the merit of their work.
That's kind of my more radical take is "we don't need to measure for talent"

To make this clear, he spends several hours a week doing things to evaluate whether or not the material he's teaching is correct instead of preparing to teach said material
I know a teacher who has been given less time to prepare/teach than other subjects in order to prepare for testing and organize student aptitude data
November 19, 2025 at 10:50 PM
I've complained about tech hiring for looking at this and saying "why don't we do the worst of both worlds?"
I do think that the SAT is measuring something, and that something has something to do with both natural aptitude and cultivated aptitude for academic success. But the best argument for it as a measure is that our alternatives (Extracurriculars! Essays! Leadership potential! Vibes!) are much worse.

This is quite literal when it comes to assessment design because you might naively think they are designed to assess your level of knowledge or skill.

If only.
A lot of education discourse is at root an inability to decide whether the purpose of our education system is to 1) teach material and measure learning 2) reward students who work hard 3) separate the smart kids (destined for smart guy jobs) from the dumb kids (destined to serve the smart guys)
