Hi. 👋🏼

If you’re here looking for the Simon Wilson who is

* the BBC journalist
* the video blogger
* the chap from New Zealand, writes for the New Zealand Herald

…none of them are me. 🫡
Take Courage on my morning run through Camden this morning feeling particularly pertinent as we hit the downhill slope of 2025.

(The power of an ad slogan from the 50s.)

Here’s a lovely cat, who happened to be waiting at the side of the canal towpath at the turnaround point of my run this morning. Good kitty.

Up early to get back home after a midweek trip to Newcastle/Gateshead to see/hear/feel Caribou at the Glasshouse.

A refreshing change from getting up early to hurtle around the country for work. There’s been a lot of that this year again, the new normal etc etc.

10/10 gig. One for the soul. 🙌🏼

Expect The Fall T-shirts in Primark any time soon. (Yes, watched Stranger Things s5 chunk 1.)

A big thumbs up for I’ve turned 50, “the NHS” sends me a cancer test through the post, do it, etc.

On the other hand moving house 18 months ago has completely fucked whoever looks after my diabetes eye tests for “the NHS”, despite me being told “we’ll sort that automatically” two years ago. 🙄

Rarity these days: Went to work gig in Leeds, Product Tank Leeds.
Another rarity: Time for notes, think about takeaways, could translate to healthcare.
Another: Sharing. (Trying, again.)

lol'd when John said "we're hiring", cross gov meet blast from the past.

Sample collected, packed and posted. Easy peasy. (Or should that be easy poo-sy. Am I right.)

Nothing says you’ve hit 50 like receiving your bowel cancer screening kit from the NHS through post. (And nothing says neat modern service like getting a kit like this days after your birthday because some groovy automated service chugs away in the background to make this happen.) #LiftFlapToOpen

Last day being 49. Still in this world, just maybe not anywhere near as much on the socials. Spread ideas, eh, not an image.

Yet another Grimsby game, yet another away Grimsby game, yet another underwhelming away Grimsby performance and — most bizarrely of all — I think after Bradford, Crewe might be the Grimsby away fixture I’ve done the most over the years.

It wasn’t anywhere near as bad as Barnet a few weeks ago tho.

This morning my phone told me:

> Excellent Sleep Score
> You scored a 93 last night! Getting to bed on time definitely helped.

I feel it was a bad night of sleep. I woke 8, 9, maybe 10 times. Today is one of those _just keep going_ days.

How I feel versus how some algo interprets data, hey.

Lunchtime. Made myself go out and see that new clock at London Bridge station, walked along the south bank past Tate Modern. Decent midday midweek freshener.

The sell of Apple’s Siri and AI versus…

Recording my run using the Apple watch’s activity tracker, asking Siri how long I’ve been running for or asking how far I’ve traveled so far on this current run: “Sorry, I can’t help with that. You can learn more about logging your health data with Siri…” 🙄

This week I had a chat with my asthma nurse. My asthma management plan is a simple doc that details my routine, what to do if the asthma gets worse. It’s usually a Word doc you and/or an asthma professional fill in.

You can view one here: www.asthmaandlung.org.uk/conditions/a...
Your asthma action plan
An asthma action plan helps you manage your asthma well and lowers your risk of symptoms and asthma attacks.

Sure sure London Kings Cross Five Guys your standard _shake_ size is this and we up north have weird rules about getting the bigger cup. (This is a _Little Shake_ cup.)

Getting into London NFL game at Tottenham’s stadium an experience. Website and signs round ground: “small clutch bag with or without a strap” allowed in. Just about every woman we saw told “that looks like a bumbag”, needed to check bag in. Contradictory, maybe sexist. www.nfl.com/news/nfl-uk-...

On my way to do the Royal Parks half marathon. Not doing a fundraiser myself. Just asking you do an act of kindness today you wouldn’t normally do. ✊🏼

I’ve watched Tron Ares so you don’t have to.

(And at the same cinema the new PTA film is showing in VistaV, the only one in the country, and well time for noodles I guess.)

Random bits of art springing up around your neighbourhood — in this case because of Bradford City of Culture — is GREAT. Better than flags too.

Saturday aft trip from Saltaire to Salford via Manchester and back on trains for the Grimsby game. First away win I’ve seen since Crewe away in something like April 2023. And I have seen *a lot* of away games since then. The Tap at Manchester Victoria is a splendid boozer too. Thanks weather gods

Heading onto the train with the spectre of postponement hanging above the football game you’re heading to. That’s living alright.
October 4, 2025 at 10:56 AM
Guy on train, 10 mins in:

* got two 4 packs of Stella
* offered some to guy across from him
* “already had a couple in Wetherspoons”
* “should be at work today but…”
* “mental health isn’t a thing, waste of money”
* missed his booked train
* “I’ll just say I’ve got dyslexia, works every time”
