Hi I’m Rachel (or “Nyc”). I am always trying new things. I don’t sell anything, so I don’t know where to go with this intro post. I just gather weird knowledge, and make whimsical doodles. ✨
A steampunk dragon made of polymer clay looks left, standing on a mission style table top with leaded glass inlay. A bunch of samples of ink made from crushed buckthorn berries and then altered by changing the ph to change the ink color. A page of watercolor swatches with naturalistic doodles on top. A rough pencil sketch of a baby scientist that seems to have tentacles. One is holding a test tube.

It really was - I put a lot of tom yum soup flavor base into it 😋

That’s where I got it, so probably - it’s in the frozen section. Comes in a lot of shapes and styles that all taste the same to me.

🔥 the Candle Crow‘s bones yearn to burn and be free 🔥

#Mashaween25 day 14 - candle.
Digital illustration of a living crow-shaped candle. The wax around the head has melted to reveal a crow‘s skull turned upward, mouth open, an ember glowing in its eye socket.

I posted it because it was strange looking, so I am ok with this 🙃

Fun Photo-dump of the annual balloon fiesta for 2025 in New Mexico. Had a great time, and loved how much whimsy was included in the special shapes this year!

This fall I have enjoyed many golden moments with northern wildlife. #birds #mammals
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Northern FLicker, Red Fox, Ring-necked Ducks
A yellow-rumped warbler perches on a wild rose plant with a golden backdrop of fall colours. A northern flicker perches on a wolf willow plant with a golden backdrop of fall colours. A red fox stands amid grasses with a golden backdrop of fall colours. A small flock of ring-necked ducks swim on a calm wetland that reflects golden leaves.

That's right. The actual reason I've been writing this series is because I want you to think about games as enrichment for the human brain. That's been the goal the whole time. It's why I kept slipping references to it in there until just straight up saying it in the last one :D

Every time doc writes one of these articles, I always walk away with something new that gets my brain buzzing. Last time, I started thinking about movement in platformers. This time, doc's insight about games as animal enrichment toys for humans stuck out to me most.

Fantastic article. Go read it.

GUESS WHO'S BACK

BACK AGAIN

DOC'S BACK

TELL A FRIEND

That's right. It's time for part 3 of the FPS series; this time, a lot of assorted thoughts on what makes for good enemy design. This one was fun as hell to write.

I would buy so many balloons and helium tanks. I would just decorate with them, hand them out, carry them around…

The power has failed. I am barefoot on the front porch reading a book in the sunset, more hobbit-like than intended.
