Mainly dry, but cool today with highs some 5 to 8 degrees below normal. Temperatures will drop back to the freezing mark or below across much of the area tonight, with a Freeze Warning in effect for those areas where the growing season has not officially ended.

Beneficial lake effect rains that have fallen mainly northeast of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario so far, will shift south focusing primarily on areas east of both lakes today through Friday.
A band of heavy lake effect rain off Lake Erie will continue to impact the Buffalo Metro area thru the evening commute with reduced visibility and ponding of water in poor drainage areas. The band will move south into the Southern Tier overnight.
A multi-day lake effect rain event is already underway off Lake Erie, with Lake Ontario to follow later today. The band off Erie will make north and south oscillations at times, but remain focused around the Buffalo Metro through much of the day. #NYwx

A long duration lake effect rain event will unfold this week. While there are still many details on band place to be worked out, several inches of rain is likely NE and E of Lake Erie, and later in the week, E of Lake Ontario. Now would be a great time to prepare for this event.

A wide band of heavy showers will enter Western NY mid to late afternoon, then move east to the Genesee Valley by early this evening. Expect brief, heavy downpours and gusty winds as this line of showers crosses the region, with isolated power outages possible. #nywx
