Bluesky I need your help… my volume editor for a book on nursing student wellbeing has been let down and we urgently need someone to write a chapter on Sleep Health. If you have capacity please get in touch, if not, please share with your networks.

I am wondering if there are medicine management nurses on here or if anyone knows of anyone? I’d like to pick their brain.

Yeah, I think this is key! , we need support looking at different types of opportunities for students to experience all areas of nursing you never know what this would inspire and how it could impact to taking the profession to the next level #NurseSky
Agree- there’s needs to be more research: but that requires funding. I wonder how easy it is to obtain funding for this kind of research #NurseSky
100% agree and as professionals, we need to network with each to be able to offer SPOKE placements to students to areas that perhaps can’t support a full placement #NurseSky
I think there’s an aspect of “I didn’t need a degree so why do new nurses need one”… there’s not enough education on the importance of the degree and how it impacts patient outcomes. #NurseSky
This sounds like it will be a fantastic and interesting #SkyChat. I’m already looking forward to it! Such an overlooked topic #NurseSky
I definitely think the whole woman should be seen and not heard has a big part. Also, when woman are assertive, it’s deems as aggressive #NurseSky
Agreed! Good to see you too
This has been a wonderful hour… I’ve felt part of a community again. A feeling I haven’t had in such a long time. Thank you everyone who contributed and thank you Leanne for though provoking questions #NurseSky #SkyChat

A seat at the decision making table, not being othered or being the first to take the rap when care is seen to fail, a reduction in NDA’s for senior nurses! #NurseSky #Nursism
I think there’s also a lack of career opportunities and opportunities to develop, I think a careers network to help nurse develop a 5/10 goal would also be beneficial. So many excellent nurses lost in the system #SkyChat #NurseSky
The focus is on getting better reward- pay- an entirely appropriate thing but insufficient focus is being given on securing the recognition of nursing as a profession - reward and recognition go hand in hand #NurseSky #Nursism
100% agree… the importance and influence of politics is not discussed enough on any nursing course not just the pre-reg. #NurseSky #SkyChat

Nurses often being called “essential” or the “backbone” of healthcare (terms I am not a fan of). While well-meaning, I think this framing devalues nurses instead of recognising them as equal contributors and knowledgeable experts. #NurseSky #SkyChat
It’s about role modelling for me. Set the standard we want to see. #NurseSky #SkyChat
I think people are both the levers and the barriers #NurseSky #SkyChat
Great insights.

We're lucky to have Sally with us this evening. From her doctoral research, Sally conceptualised and named the phenomenon of "Nursism".

#NurseSky
Nurses tend to talk about nursing using sentiment, struggle to explain the difference between lay and therapeutic care, registered and non registered nursing work #NurseSky

We don't have to pay angels fairly or value their education.

It serves a purpose for governments and media to perpetuate what appears, at first glance, to be a positive image.

Keeping us quiet, powerless and easily exploited. Angelic.

#NurseSky
Personally, I’m fed up of being referred to as an “angel”, just because I’m a nurse, which stems from the idea it’s a vocation, not a profession. #nursesky
I do believe patients view us with empathy on many occasions. I do feel they trust us a lot and often feel that we view them as partners in their health decisions #NurseSky #SkyChat

Biscuits for us… we aren’t allowed a toaster 🤪 #NurseSky #SkyChat
Also, poor culture and leadership, I think a lot of work environments don’t encourage a psychologically safe culture where people feel free to speak out and challenge the norm. #NurseSky #SkyChat
Definitely the media and the “hero’s/ angel” rhetoric. I think a lot of people don’t appreciate the responsibility of nursing #NurseSky #SkyChat
We take orders from others and we sit around drinking tea #NurseSky
