Parent teacher conferences were last night and a phrase is sticking with me. In encouraging us, doing such a great job, etc., the special classroom teacher said “it’s clear your children are so loved” and, whoa, that hit me like a gut punch. That’s something you need to call out? Other kids aren’t?

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

E finally started her new med. I hope it works. We’re desperate. But also, I feel horrible that she needs it.

We have three other kids to “prove” that we aren’t shit parents.

But I worry that we’re shit.
