You showed up though, which is great. I couldn't be bothered today due to work stuff, but mainly because my hip hurts and Hips Don't Lie.

Very good archive doc about attempts to climb the North face, some disastrous 😞 but also Ueli Steck scaling it like a mountain goat

On the Eiger Trail, at the foot of the North Face, a pause by the plaques and photos of notable climbs and tragedies, and Ueli Steck’s big hand.

A cast of mountaineer Ueli Steck’s hand print. A plaque on the Eiger Trail with information about the first solo ascent in 1963. A small engraved “Eiger trail” plaque. A plaque on the Eiger Trail with information on climbing tragedies of the 1930s.

A memorable time #trailrunning* solo on the Eiger Trail at the base of the awesome Nordwand, on this day in 2018

*ish - mainly huffing up a vertical path in threatening weather!
The Eiger trail, high in the Alps. The Eiger trail heads towards the base of the North Face of the mountain shrouded in cloud. Looking up from the Eiger Trail at the North Face of the Eiger mountain. Drama as the Eiger Trail passes beneath cable cars.

It’s a very special place. I hope you get the chance some day!

What a shocking experience. I hope you continue to recover well and can get back to running again.

OTD two years ago, my solo adventure, Yorkshire to the Alps by train (via London / Paris / Basel) and arrived to the the last of the afternoon light on the Eiger - heaven..

This “Tower” sculpture on the Brontë moors is clad in raw fleeces to represent Bradford’s wool heritage. The hound was possessed by it, but all I could think of was fleas and ticks 🪰

Seven years ago, I had badly broken my arm falling off my bike so our #mtb holiday in the #Dolomites was reduced to me watching others ride. Did some good hikes though 😊

A bit slow after a busy week, but I was just happily zoned out with my tunes on #trailrunnning

A crisp autumn morning in That London. Loads of folk wrapped up like Arctic explorers whereas I, down from the Pennines, am shedding layers as soon as I step off the train 😥
Taxis parked outside Kings Cross Station with a view of St Pancras on a bright blue day.

Thank you. It was all ok!

At 694 metres (2,277 feet) Pen-y-Ghent is 1 of the 10 highest peaks in Yorkshire. The name is believed to originate from the Cumbric language (similar to Welsh). Pen-y-Ghent likely means “Hill on the Border”—pen meaning "head" or "top", and ghent possibly meaning "edge" or "border"

A scenic rural landscape featuring a prominent hill with rocky outcrops and patches of green vegetation, set beneath a clear blue sky with wispy clouds. In the foreground, frosty grass and shrubs cover the ground, and a traditional dry stone wall runs horizontally across the scene, adding a rustic element. The overall atmosphere is serene and crisp, evoking a cold but peaceful morning in the countryside.
