Jean Rollin's "The Living Dead Girl" (currently showing on the Criterion Channel) isn't my favorite film of his (that would be "The Shiver of the Vampires").

I watched Ken Russell's film "Altered States" last night (the Criterion 4K UHD is gorgeous!) and I swear some scenes in the film are similar to the metaphysical scenes in the insane last few minutes of Disney's "The Black Hole" film (which came out a year earlier).

Well, it got much darker than that, but I still liked it despite the whiplash-inducing turn the film took in the second half.

As much as I loved the needle drop of Tom Petty's song "American Girl" in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", I loved the placement of it even more in "One Battle After Another".
In "Fast Times", it symbolized the end of innocence. In "One Battle", it's a call to arms against fascism.

I enjoyed the film, especially main character James, who is reminiscent of Jerry Lundegaard from “Fargo”, another man who gets in over his head when dabbling in crime.

I really disliked "Shelby Oaks". As Roger Ebert would say, it was an insult to my eyes.
It rehashes ideas from "The Blair Witch Project" and "Hereditary" but doesn't do them anywhere near as well, and a few jump scares peppered randomly throughout the run time doesn't make a good horror film.
