The Moth section of our annual Photographic was keenly contested. At one stage I thought I may be called on to give my casting vote but this image of a Puss Moth by David Beecroft just edged in front when all the votes were counted. #mothsmatter

Some shocking findings from our European colleagues, we need far more effort to conserve these amazing insects at home and abroad

The new European Butterfly Red List is published today, with worrying findings. Over 1/4 (28%) of Europe’s 442 species are threatened with extinction or are close to being so. The situation is far worse for our 148 endemic species, 40% are now threatened or nearly so www.bc-europe.eu/webpage.php?...

A disappointing catch in my garden moth trap yesterday morning probably due to New Moon. Only 3 species but new to the garden was a Narrow -winged Grey and as well as a Green-brindled Crescent. #mothsmatter

1 of 4 Red Admirals enjoying the sun in my North Norfolk garden yesterday. In the autumn rotting fruit and flowers of Ivy are great favourites for them. #savebutterflies

Last moth event of 2025 was held at Foxley Wood. 6 traps produced 215 moths of 61 species: The highlight was the site’s 1st Clifden Nonpareil. We suspected it might be breeding in the wood as it has a large amount of Aspen, it's host plant. It was good to confirm its presence!

Weather charts suggested migrant species may be on the cards. Seems they were not wrong. Clancy's Rustic, a new species for me in the trap this morning. @norfolkbutterflies.bsky.social @norfolknats.bsky.social
