We work on games, a lot of us work remotely. Even if we work in an office, there are outsourcing companies and contractors, etc. etc. Point is, we don't all have a great view into everyones' processes, and a lot of games is built on trust between departments - To wit:

these past few days I've been thinking a lot about what makes the world of hollow knight work so well, and I think it's because it's got an enormous amount of *character*
it's very, flavorful, created with a clear direction in mind, and executed so holistically across art/vfx/design/sfx/VO/music

I still remember the shocked disgust with which an ex-friend asked me, “How do you find new music?” when I said I don’t listen to Spotify because I don’t want to be fed music by an algorithm. I scavenge it myself like a normal magpie??? Much like my books collection???
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.
