These are now her very favorite, judging by her reaction, followed by Doritos.

Tilly likes pork rinds.
So far she only dislikes plain potato chips.

Surprised he made it through security. Those look more dangerous than nail clippers.

I think it’s colors and materials. Just gives me that 80s aesthetic.

Found an 80s backgammon set at the thrift store. Even includes the instruction booklet.
Very 80s backgammon set, all velour and pleather.

I hope not, because I sure do.

Peaceful assembly isn’t an insurrection.

Storming the Capitol to hang your own vice-president and end democracy is.

I love that for the last few weeks the local news has a counter on how many homes at the beach have washed away.
When I moved to NC most of the beach homes were small owner occupied vacation homes. Now they’re McMansion rentals owned by distant investors, so no sympathies.

Fell asleep mid exploration.
Tilly asleep next to sandals.

Tilly let me sleep until 6:30 on this chilly morning.
Currently she’s exploring the Birkenstocks.
Happy #Caturday
Tilly showing interest in my Birkenstocks.

We are reaching the tipping point with continued measles outbreaks throughout the U.S. If they continue (bad news: under this administration, that's nearly guaranteed), we are at risk of losing our elimination status. What that means in the info-graphic, below.
Infographic saying:
Measles Alert. The US is approaching a tipping point - we may lose our measles elimination status.
What is "Measles Elimination"?
"Elimination means no continuous endemic transmission of measles for <12 months despite importations. The U.S. was declared to have eliminated measles in 2000. But elimination is not "forever" - if the virus begins sustained transmission again, the status can be revoked.
Why the US is now at risk:
2025 is seeing the highest measles caseload in decades - over 1,544 confirmed cases as of Sept. 30. Many outbreaks are clustering in under-vaccinated communities. Measles is extremely transmissible, so her immunity needs very high coverage (>92-95%) to block sustained spread.
What losing elimination means - and why it matters:
Measles becomes endemic again: regular spread, more severe outcomes, and greater health impact. The public health burden increases; contact tracing, outbreak response, surveillance costs, and strain on local health systems.

Just finished The Originalism Trap. Thank you to @audrelawdamercy.bsky.social for writing this, maintaining a wonderful sense of humor throughout, and getting in a reference to Doctor Who.

Please, everyone, grab a copy.

Rick Wilson compares her stuttering evasions, insults, and faux bursts of performative outrage to a fake orgasm — Unfortunately, this makes her performance seem far more entertaining than it actually was; and is unfair to orgasms.

Reason For Hope Amid the Wreckage
If you woke up this morning with the vague sense that you were missing a goodly portion of your brain cells, it’s likely that you watched Pam Bondi’s performance yesterday before a Senate committee.

Q. What's the difference between Pam Bondi and Meg Ryan?

A. No one wants to have what Bondi's having.

I wrote about the Bari Weiss take over of CBS News as part of a broader trend away from the pretense of liberal institutionalism into a genuinely post-reality tabloidism, marked by AI slop, unsophisticated Trumpian-Likudite propaganda and consolidation of traditional and social media.

People keep saying AI is inevitable so we need to at least be comfortable with it. I don’t think it is, though. With more and more people speaking out against it, legal challenges, and companies seemingly investing in it and not getting their money back, it might not stick around. Also, it’s dumb.

All day messing with getting the microfilm scanner computers set up. For a technical librarian I sure dislike having to do technology stuff. Nothing for me more complicated than a blackjack or a Luger, to quote Bored of the Rings.

This isn’t the first time Miller has used the term “plenary authority” with respect to the Presidency. He did so already in March, but that time he was referring to the president’s authority in foreign policy. What’s new here is now to say this absolute power also applies domestically.
cwebbonline.com
Stephen Miller said the quiet part out loud. Trump has “plenary authority,” then suddenly went silent. Their plan wasn’t to be public yet. Clearly, someone hit the panic button in his earpiece.

It gets weirder: CNN uploaded the interview with the “plenary authority” comment edited out.
