Somebody got REALLY angry about this. DDoS of 1000 requests per second to the blog post, from a wide variety of IPs, with random domains as referer.

Should be mostly mitigated now...

as a software engineer, ai coding makes my life measurably worse by polluting the information environment and vastly increasing the scale of incorrect bullshit my peers can and do create that i then have to clean up, or worse, guard against and NOT clean up. it actively makes people around me dumber
I think that may be the core division here: if you are an author or an artist the cons of generative AI very likely outweigh the pros for you

If you are a software developer the opposite is true

A feature request that I sent 16 years ago was just implemented and closed. I had no memory of sending it… and barely remembered the project's existence.

Spiders Georg factoid actually just human failure to grasp big numbers. Even eating 365,250,000 spiders a year has minimal impact on number of spiders eaten by average person given size of human population.

Alright! Let's actually talk about this waterfall thing. It is an amazing showcase of many things that I adore from late 90s/early 2000s graphics.
I am replicating this in Blender through mere observation, so some things might not be fully accurate to the mind-boggling effects of the PS1.

I’m getting more and more of these too. It’s depressing.
I am by no means a prominent public intellectual, but my inbox is increasingly filled with messages from people who have been convinced by sycophantic chatbots that they have discovered revolutionary theories that entirely upend our scientific understanding of the universe.

Looks like this uses AWDL, and I haven't seen anything about minimum iOS requirements. They actually implemented the AirDrop protocol on Android. Incredible.

I still can't tell if there was any collaboration with Apple or not...
iPhone Users Can Now AirDrop Files to Android Devices
iPhone Users Can Now AirDrop Files to Android Devices
Apple and Google have teamed up for a new cross-platform feature that allows for file sharing between iPhone and Android users. With AirDrop on the ‌iPhone‌ and QuickShare on Pixel 10 devices, there is a new file transfer function available. The file sharing option works on Apple devices that include ‌iPhone‌, iPad, and Mac, along with the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Fold. According to Google, Apple device users will need to change their AirDrop visibility to Everyone for 10 Minutes to be able to accept a file transfer from a Pixel 10 device. With that setting enabled, a file coming from an Android user looks identical to an AirDrop file from an ‌iPhone‌ user, featuring the same notification and tap to accept option. To receive files from an Apple user, the Pixel 10 user will need to turn on the Everyone for 10 minutes setting or enter into Receive mode on the Quick Share page. Files are saved in the Files app. Google says that the QuickShare and AirDrop interoperability was designed with a multi-layered security approach to ensure a safe sharing experience regardless of platform. There's a secure sharing channel, built-in platform protections for Android and iOS, and a consent requirement before a file is received. Connections between devices are direct and peer-to-peer, so data is not routed through a server. For file transfers in both directions, the Apple device or the Pixel 10 device displays the other person's device name for verification purposes. As of right now, the feature only works in the Everyone for 10 Minutes AirDrop sharing mode, but Google says that it would like to work with Apple to support "Contacts Only" mode in the future. AirDrop and Quick Share interoperability is available now.Tags: AirDrop, Google This article, "iPhone Users Can Now AirDrop Files to Android Devices" first appeared on MacRumors.com Discuss this article in our forums

Last Wednesday while sitting in the train (no computer), I got a lot of planning work done on how I was going to implement something. Even better, on the walk from the train station, I figured out that implementing that thing was going to be pointless and I shouldn't do it at all.
Trying to measure coding productivity is, and always will be, a fool's errand.

Why? Because I can go for a walk then take a shower and have an idea, then write a single line of code that fixes everything I was working on.

Immense productivity, but by most metrics I didn't do anything at all.
