Massive thanks to the activists from @bobbrownfoundation for their tireless courage and steadfast defence of this beautiful place.

This forest must be protected not destroyed, and we need to end native forest logging right around Australia.
Forestry Tasmania have made it clear that they intend to log this majestic forest, and the interest from Tasmania Police means they may move in any time to facilitate its destruction.
Police and Forestry Tasmania have scoped out the Styx Forest Sentinel Camp that I visited this week.
Labor promised zero extinctions. But while the koala edges closer to vanishing, their reforms to our nature laws are too weak and too slow. We need strong national laws, enforced by an independent watchdog, that actually keep trees standing.
Even worse, 98% of destroyed koala habitat is being bulldozed without assessment. Agriculture and native forest logging are driving the devastation, while Labor refuses to close the loopholes that allow it.
Since 2011, almost 38,000 hectares of koala habitat has been signed off for destruction under Australia’s so-called “nature protection” laws. That is an area larger than two Royal National Parks.
The koala is officially listed as endangered. The government itself admits habitat destruction is the “major and increasing threat” to their survival. Yet Labor keeps waving projects through that tear down their forests.
2025 has already been the worst on record for the destruction of koala habitat. Almost 4,000 hectares – the size of four Sydney Airports – has been approved to be bulldozed this year.
Tibet’s status remains unresolved and it’s time for the Australian government to clearly declare this and support self determination for the Tibetan people.
They bravely shared profound stories of personal and cultural loss.

We must remember those who who remain in Tibet under authoritarian rule, without freedom of movement and religion, and we must reject the legitimacy of any Dalai Lama appointed by the Chinese government.
My privilege to meet today with a delegation of Australia’s Tibetan community.

We spoke about the need for self-determination for Tibetan people, and the importance of protecting the future succession of the Dalai Lama from Chinese government interference.
Its habitats, landscapes and seascapes should be protected under international conventions, not exploited for profit by a multinational corporation.
It is the southern end of the East Asian Australasian flyway, which runs from the Arctic to Tasmania, and is integral to some of the most profound bird migrations in the world.
Robbins Island is critical habitat for migratory birds, and has been identified by the Commonwealth as being suitable for an International Ramsar listing.
This project will have massive impacts on biodiversity and threatened species, including the critically endangered Orange Bellied Parrot, the Tasmanian Wedge-tailed eagle and the endangeredTasmanian Devil.
Of course we need more renewable energy projects, but Robbins Island is the wrong project in the wrong place.
The Albanese Labor Government needs to fix our nature laws and end native forest logging now.
The Forestry Corporation of NSW needs to be abolished, along with RFAs and other loopholes in the EPBC that allow native forest logging to to be exempt from environmental laws.
The Forestry Corporation of NSW and native forest logging industry is an archaic, mendicant industry that destroys precious native habitats and carbon sinks.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority has just laid 29 charges against the Forestry Corporation of NSW for repeatedly failing to protect a threatened species. Again.
Every young person deserves to be supported and feel safe expressing who they are.

We saw an historic moment this week with former AFL player Mitch Brown coming out as bisexual. The incredible response to his courageous announcement reinforces the importance of LGBTIQA+ representation and role models in sport, on the national stage, and in all spaces.
Today is Wear it Purple Day 💜

Today and every day, we must advocate for, support, and empower LGBTIQA+ young folk, and create safe and inclusive environments for them to thrive.
Teal logic is quite incredible - Spender says we should remove the unfair tax breaks… but only for people who earn money from wages. But if you earn money from assets you can keep your tax breaks. I wonder who that works for…
We need to end tax breaks for wealthy property investors, not give them an exclusive licence. Teal brain wont fix the housing crisis.
