I just had a look at the relevant Act. (www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/2...). Hard to see that any prosecution will stick (it needs to be “grossly offensive” —rather, say, than “factually accurate”.) So plod is probably doing something to be seen to be doing something.

You could also read this piece as either companies gouging customers or trying to increase their profitability while median customers are getting poorer. All investors are trying to make 4% returns in a 2% world.
